I have 2 strats.
One is a Squire with a swamp ash body and the other is a Strat 50's re-issue. The Squire blows the Strat out of the water, the difference in tone is huge, all because of the body. It's tone difference is very noticable when not plugged in. I'm not sure what kind of wood the reissue is, but it's thin, lifeless, too bright and brittle, it's just awful.

When I took my 1983 '57 Reissue ordered in tribute to the real Blackie by me,this Fullerton baby weighed the same as the Gc Blackie and actually mine had a louder acoustic ring to it,so as the prices of the last Fullerton made reissues has over tripled in just the past year,I;m quite happy wlth mine, and didn't have to spend $21K plus tax,
So as they are saying it's all in the wood, how it was put together, ect.
Much as I loved the worn out neck, which was remarkably close to my '57 reissue, the v or boat neck was heavily worn down,I loved the GC blackie, but wouldn;t trade my 1983 for it! :D :D

I love my Strats! (I know, who cares, right? )

My main one has a heavy body and a FAT "C" shaped neck that plays great. I like thicker necks on any type of guitar.

It has Rio Grande alnico pickups and sounds kind of like a mix between a Strat and a Tele (not quite as "jangly" in the treble range as a typical Strat).

I still like my Les Paul custom but Strats have a lot more variety of tones, IMO. I love the dynamics of true single coil pups.

I learned on strats, so that is why I prefer them. The strings on Gibsons always seem too loose, and I cant get the kind of 'expression' on them as I can on a strat when playing the same licks. I read a long time ago (The June or July 1984 issue of Guitar World with Glenn and K.K from J. Priest on th cover, which I still have) that 'ol Yngwie also dislikes Gibsons for this same reason. I have owned and liked Gibsons, but never as much as Strats. I do think that for a Gibson, the best sound I ever heard out of them was a Es-335 (like Claptons) that Eddie Hazel used in the studio cut of Funkadelic's "Red Hot Mama". I always go through phases of likeing one Guitar over another. Right now I'm really digging back into the vintage strat tone and vibe.
