Left Hand Bigger!!

Post by rgalpin » Fri Jul 13, 2007 11:17 am

no, i didn't take LEFT HAND ENHANCEMENT drugs!

i am having a less than thrilling day at work and so, i'm staring at my hands and lining up my knuckles (like a scientist turned mental patient) and i realize that the fingers on my left hand are markedly longer than the fingers on my right hand.

i've been playing guitar for about 35 years - i guess my left hand mutated to accommodate my playing. ya think? crazy!

anybody else observe such a phenomenah?

It's the same with a person's feet - no two hands or feet are the exact same size.

Here's an easy (pseudo scientific) method to find out how much bigger:

-Full a jug (a little longer/deeper than your hand) with water to about 75% capacity and mark the waterline on the jug with a marker.
-Dip your fully extended right hand in there touching the bottom with your index finger - make a mark to where the waterline is now.
-Remove your right hand and hold it over the jug for a moment to catch the dripping water from your hand.
-Now do the same for your left hand.

If the waterline doesn't fall in the exact place on both measurements -guess what - both hands are not the same exact size!! :D

If you perform some basic Fluid Mechanics (basic physics) equations you can actually determine to the exact degree the volume difference between the two, given the displacement of water in the jug.

If you do this at work, chances are you will be certified as a guitar playing physics nut! :D

I'm having a less-than-trilling day at work as well.

BTW...your clips and playing are killer! 8)

You heard about the woman who went to the doctor complaining that her left breast was bigger than her right?

The doctor suggested that she start dating left handed boys!

Rob,outside of all these wank jokes, seriously no two persons hands are exactly the same size the same with feet and often, sides of the face are minutely different as are eye configuraton,so to have longer digits on your left hand, should allow you to nail the Hendrix chords and play the bass notes as well as the leads at the same time, remember it's not size that counts,it's what you do with the size you were blessed with 8)

Hey Rob, my left hand is also bigger ! I just read the post and started looking. I have been playing for 31 years (well 25 seriously) and think that is why.

Okay..now you got me doing it. My left hand is larger also...all of my fingers are longer except my pinky. That finger is really deformed from playing 42 years..It curves toward the other fingers and is pretty crooked. I started playing when I was 12. All the stretching on the acoustic I think really beat it up...LOL

Mean like one of those fiddler crabs?

Or if you saw the "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" movie, "COCK KNOCKER" (played by Mark Hamill)???
