I like him better than Michael Angelo, Chief. At least he aint sportin' one of those "just caught my finger in the lawn mower" hair-do's, like ol' Mikey is still trying to pull off. Seriously, how come orientals seem to always kill at what ever they do? Im totally jealous. If I lived to be 227 years old, I dont think I could get that technique down. (well, anyway, my guit would be getting soggy with all the 227 year old man dribble on it. Imagine the 227 year old man songs... "All Along The... something... The Wind Cries... ummm... Margaret?? Third Sun From Uranus"... Oohhh, the humanity.).NY Chief wrote:Michael Angelo student!?!?!

Yeah, no shit, fill. Saw Batio at a local guitar store doing a "clinic". More like showing off. Everything was "I'm just so fast" and "Blues on Dude" or "Shred on Dude" ....fillmore nyc wrote:I like him better than Michael Angelo, Chief. Hey, Chief, the time you saw MA at a store clinic, was that in CA, or in NY? He did one of those "watch me play at nuclear speed" clinics in a little hole of a music store on Merrick Rd in Valley Stream. He plays faster than all hell, and the fact that he's ambidextrous allows him to do stuff that almost no one can do (except the guy in the clip you posted), but where has it gotten him, besides being the equivalent of a circus act? I mean, if he just got up and played at less than Warp 9 (I CANT GET ANY MORE OUT OF HER THAN THAT JIM!!! THE LITHIUM CRYSTALS WILL BURN UP!!!), he probably would be better known than in just the "shred till yer dead" circles, cause Ill bet he could pull off a pretty wicked blues, or VH type song.NY Chief wrote:Yeah, no shit, fill. Hey fill, I saw MA at Jim's Music in Irvine, CA. You're right the act is very impressive for a while. And he was in several bands. There was a thread all about him I had started here after I had seen the show at Jim's.
IMO he can't play a blues to save his ass. He starts OK but then just can't control himself until "he just can't take the pounding anymore, Jim!"

Looks more like a chick to me, wider hips, thinner arms, etc....
Anyway, it's cool but not really that impressive to me. It's like he/she just took the polyphonic keyboard approach to guitar...I mean, this technique is not exactly alien to keyboard players. Not to bring everybody down, but really, other than damping open strings, how is this different than playing a piano? I always wonder why Stanley Jordan, and Michael Angelo get so much credit for a technique that really isn't all that original..."novel" to guitar yes, original to musical intruments, no.
I could be wrong...
