Yeah. I hate that shit. Total pussy way to bid but thats how most people do it. It really shouldnt matter though. If you put in your honest max bid amount then it wouldnt matter when this guy comes and tries to outbid you because he'll either cover your max or he wont. Then youll just be dissapointed because you thought you were good to go. But most of us dont bid like that. We start small until we get outbid then sit and consider how high we'll go to get control again. Thats why it works so well. They bid in the last 10 seconds knowing you wont have enough time to consider and rebid. I was bidding on an external HD before and I swear there must have been 20 bids go on in the last 30 seconds.

The only person this really hurts is the seller. They have no time to see who bid on their item or look at their FB etc... I like that many sellers choose to put a disclaimer that says they will end the auction 'some time' before it actually ends (say a few hours or 40 minutes). Noone knows when so it kills that last second bullshit.

It does blow when you're thinkin' you got it won and then that last page refresh you're outbid..........
But like Dan said, I throw in my max bid....and that's that. I'm not gonna get into a bidding war over something and lose my shorts paying more than I have to spend. My max is my max and when it's beat it's beat.

I've never tried it, but I've heard that a lot of people use esnipe.com to do exaclty what happened to you. You have to pay and a computer bids at the last possible second to ensure you win the auction.
A couple years ago someone did that to me on a 70's 4x12 cab. Totally sucks.

My connection is fast enough to refresh every second if I need to but if you have a dial up your finished.

Videocat,
It's a little more dough, but for an extra $50 over what that auction ended at you can get one exactly like it from dave at www.avatarspeakers.com.

I have an older model avatar 212 (with the rat fur) loaded with Eminence V30s that I use in my teaching room.....very nice cabs for the money.
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

On the other hand, last minute shoppers do wonders if you are a seller.
