I agree with 45auto. You do have many choices, but in general, easy playing guitars tend to sound differently than moderate to hard to play guitars.
What I did with my last homebrew (Warmoth), was to finally build a guitar that incorporated everything that I liked in other guitars. It is sorta like what lynch did back in the day.1 humbucker and 1 single coil.
I like the shape and balance of a origional strat, but I like not having a pick guard, so its rear loaded.
I like a bridge humbucker sound, so it has that (mounted directly to the body)
I like a neck posistion single coil, but cant use anything in the middle much cause of my picking. I also like the neck and bridge sound togather, ala Gibson or Tele. It does that.
I like using the tremelo (80's throwback player, I know) but hate going out of tune, so there's a Floyd Rose on it.
This particular guitar is almost 100 % to my likeing with only a few things needing changed. Which are, #1The humbucker (Custom Custom) is WAY more powerful than the single coil(Am. St. Fender) Im gonna hae to get a weaker humbucker or a stronger single coil. #2 I got steel frets on it, which are a little too 'brittle bright' for my likeing, as well as the 10-16 compound radius. I actually like a gibsons 10' or maybe 12' radius better. I also got the small strat headstock, but prefer the larger style. So I'm gonna get a new neck. Also its hard Ash, which at first worried me, cause it's very bright and attacky sounding. This too is growing on me. Notes ring out with tremendous flair.
This guitar has grown on me tremendously. It does a vintage strat sound very well. It can do the 'Gibson' humbucker thing justice as well. In effect, this guitar is all I need. It took me this long to finally figure out what I like most about guitars. This guitar is the culmination of that.
