DI

You can tell tho cant you? DI has taht wierd not-live dynamic to it. Or lack-of. Kinda squished and plasticy where speakers are open and dynamic. Dynamic. Thats 3. 8) And live. Ill try something more involved next song.

Is that an amp with an outboard DI or is it a "modeler"? It sounds pretty realistic.

I'm still surprised how close I can get with a Boss GT-8. It's the best direct amp/speaker simulator I've heard. It blows away the PODs, IMO. I haven't tried the software sims though.

the term "dynamic" is worth using 3 times!

Hey Dan,

I have my UA coming this week...hoping it's a big improvement over the HotPlate.

You obviously put yours through its paces...your honeymoon with it is over, so is it all that it's reported to be?

Ive had it a few years now. Its the only attenuator Ive ever tried that doesnt have huge holes in the tone at low volumes. The only one. Now the lowest settings arent perfect by any means, but theyre a hell of a lot better then anything else Ive played. Ive experimented with droping the voltage on the power tubes only (PSK without the actual continuous 'control') and that was easily as good but suffered from the same problem which I basically accept as the speaker not moving enough to be dynamic and psycho-acoustics. Nothing any attenuation method can solve.

Thats about the most important thing to me in an amp. That and harmonics/swirl. Thats what took me from a pretty hard rock player down to an amp that has no more drive then in the 'Tush' soundclip. Even riding home 20 minutes ago I was listening to some classic rock, I forget who (maybe 'Who') but this awesome vintage clean tone jumped out at me. Sat back in the mix but damn I can hear that swirl a mile away. It really does sound like the best chorus ever made is on the sound but theres no effects at all.

Listening to the clip again since yesterday its so nasily. I dont knwo how the digital modeling works but it sounds to me like they obviously get the different cab models by messing with the phase too much and it just doesnt work that well if you ask me. Thats the problem with line6 in general. You cant do 50 things well. Most people would rather spend the money on something that does one thing very well. I would anyway. In this case a Cab Sim that doesnt sound like Joe Everyman miced your cab.
