Anybody using Gibson strings?

There's more to life than just amps?

Anybody using Gibson strings?

Post by jfhudak » Mon Oct 29, 2007 10:21 am

Hey Fellers,

I've been using the all nickel Gibson Reissue strings lately (10-46) and overall I really like them. I like the added tension, and they seem to hold up rather well with the pounding that I give them.

I have noticed, however, that the lower strings lose their brilliance very quickly. Has anyone else noticed this?

I really like all nickel strings, so I was wondering what y'all use that is readily available?

Thanks, Fellers! ;)

It's been my experience that nickel strings aren't as bright as alloys. It's like they lose a little brightness but they stay that way for longer then alloys.
YMMV.

I like the pure nickel wrap but if you are looking for a bit of extra snap then get nickel plated plain steel on the bass side.

I have been using the Reissues for a month or so lately too and I like them but as you say the lower strings go dull pretty quick. I also have tried the Les Paul signature set with the silk wrapped ends ( 10-46 ) and to me they sound more vibrant overall and hold up much longer than the reissues and they seem like a perfect match for the BB 1&2 in my R8.

COOL! I'll give those a try. Is there any difference in the construction? I wonder why they stay fresh longer?
