Dorky Tube Question

Post by Dax » Wed Apr 20, 2005 12:48 am

My 76' 1987 sounds killer. Nails the "Shoot to Thrill" tone. I have JJE34L's and GT12AX7M's. What would i hear different with NOS Mullards, I Really dig the crunchy tone of the JJ's. I've tried just about all tweaks except for NOS Tubes.

I think the far better way to get old preamp tubes is to check out local sources for old tube equipment that has stuff you want off it. Nobody but us freaks think that tube gear is worth a crap, look at how many tubes Terry Kilgore gets out of junk organs he picks up for nothing -- RCA blackplates, great preamp tubes, etc.
No way no how am I paying $90-$100 each for a Mullard when I can scrounge nice Telefunkens out of old stereo gear......
