That I may imagine, and Matt is probably 'the better voice/choice' for the Iced Earth music style. Tough I also loved Tim Owen's voice not badly.WCR wrote:I see he just now got his old singer back. Lotta happy fans there....
I'm still member on some other boards (TheAmpGarage, TGP, PlexiPalace), but this board here is by far my favourite board. You'll also see, that here are a lot of nice guys around!WCR wrote:What a GREAT suprise, I had no idea you were a member here.
WCR wrote:Jon sure loves the HELL outta your amp work.

Not yet. Jon had it in two of his Les Paul's on tour, but none loose left over. But I think, that it might be the 'right one' for the Les Paul, Jon gave me as a present. I've installed a Crossroads Neck and a Darkburst Bridge in it at the moment, but sometimes I'd like to have a tad more 'growl' from the Bridge PU, especially when I'm playing more kinda heavy stuff - so let's speak to each other soonWCR wrote:Did you get those pickups installed in anything yet?

Have a great time here on this board!

Yep, GW. And you can screw around with the mags in that as well.
I still have those clips I got from you I think last year. Man, that is some MONSTER playing Bro!
And the same goes for you Mark, I have repeatedly and shamelessly used and abused that clip you sent me over, and over, and over again......

Very cool Thx Jim, A2 seems to be a better choice so far versus the A5 for me. Like Larry said basicly earlier here.....
Jim can you just tell us in brief what to expect with A3,4,8?? I know its details but details are the sh**t around here so...

Hey Jim, I'm interested in either the Crossroads or the Darkburst bridge. Are the pickups scatterwound and are they wax potted?
I hear so many good things about the Darkburst but the clips of the Crossroads really float my boat. Other than output are they pretty much the same?

Scatterwound to me means lack of control. Mine are handwound, but I know right where it all goes..... lol DBs have a little more meat. Not alot, about .5k or so. Most like it with the stock A5, but occasssionaly someone will like an A2 instead. They are stupid-easy to swap.....gnugear wrote:Hey Jim, I'm interested in either the Crossroads or the Darkburst bridge. Are the pickups scatterwound and are they wax potted?

I don't use wax, I consider it a major tone-killer. But I have my own stuff I came up with that suppresses the squeals, but still allows the guitar's resonations come through. So you can hear the wood itself better.
I kinda look at it like this: Say you are driving a run-away truck down a steep InerState highway. Here and there you will see a run-away truck ramp. It goes uphill, and is full of loose gravel, so you sink right in and stop.
So if you can imagine the truck is your guitar resonations, and the wax as the run-away stop, you'll see what I mean......it prevents a lot of the axe itself from showing through. The stuff I use doesn't.
Here ya go JP. Quote from Page 3.
"On the magnet side of things. The weaker the mag, the rounder the top and bottom end, mids will stand out a little more, but also will be rounded off. Especially the upper-mids.
The stronger the mag, the tighter things become. You'll get more highs, and a bigger, but tighter low end. You'll get more , sharper articulation, especially in the mids and upper mids.
The mags I have , in order of strengths, are Alinico3,2,4,5, 8 and Ceramic 8. The 3 is the weakest, and although they are called Alnico3, they are not a true alnico. No cobalt. "

I got the Crossroads set. They are great pickups,so much harmonic bloom. I can't see using anything else. I just ordered some alnico II magnets from Jim to see what that would sound like. my les paul classic is 100% better with the Crossroads compaired to the ceramics that are factory installed and the burstbuckers that I put in it before the Crossroads. Great pickups Jim !!!

Jim I just ordered a Godwood, couldn't resist!!
Two more qts, is it possible to change the chassis of the pickup myseft, I like to butsher them?? Do you have shorter chassis where the screws goes, the lenght of those two legs that fit with the springs and screws??!! If so, can you use one for the Godwood instead of the "stock" one you have, need to have haft the lenght of those two legs if possible...
Godwood hey, like the name of that, my girlfriend call me that all the time!!

You people should get the set of mags with your PU, it is as sensitive as our amp tweaks we all do around here.......

Jim can you check this out ? Thx!!

I know, that he can - at least sometimes. But you also can order the PU's with brushed silver-nickel covers, what I did and IMO looks nice.gnugear wrote:One more question ... can you get aged covers?
Compare it on the photo, where left you see my Historic with the shiney covers (and still the price sticker on the pickguard at that time

Jim also may deliver gold plated covers, as they are in my Hamer, seen right.
As for the magnets I can say, that I'm a fan of the A2's in the WCR's, which promote a more silky & bluesy sound, like I personally like it very much. For straight rock up to metal I'd rather recommend A5's in the PU's.
