Self Lead Transformers Question

Post by Kate Moss » Thu Jan 17, 2008 6:05 pm

Please excuse my ignorance, but I was hoping someone could school me on what the difference between self lead and non self lead transformers is. What does "self lead" mean? In what instance would you use one over the other? Thanks a bunch

Well, self lead to me is when you take the actual wire being used to wind the transformer and bring it out for termination. The other method being non-self lead is when you terminate the transformer wire inside the coil and bring out another wire in it's place.
Patience is a virtue.

Thank you Brian. That is the answer I was looking for. I assume that the early plexi heads had the self lead transformers and later they started splicing the leads to the solid core wire.
