I've got a set of Wolfetone Legends (actually a hybrid of Dr.V and Legend, with 4 conductor wiring) coming my way, and I'm ordering from RS Guitarworks in the next few days, so I need to know what I'm ordering....

As it is I'm getting a Tone Pros Bridge, Aged Tonepros Gold Lightweight Tailpiece(the guitar is old, new hardware would look dorky), and the Luxe Bee replica caps. Wiring will be 50's style, plus whatever switching options I choose.

Which wiring scheme suits you guys best? Which is the most useful? What say you about the RS Superpots?

Seriously, though, Trav... whats with the push-pull/series parallel/coil tap/hydraulic, automatic load sensing oil dampened pickup height adjustment gizmo's?? (sounds like something Gibson is gonna market) IMO, that shit is a waste of time and energy. Just wire 'er up like a normal LP and be done with it!! I dont know anybody that uses all those bells and whistles anyway. You can get lost with all those options, much less have to think about it in the middle of a gig.
Its like having heated hubcaps on your car... nice to brag about, but are you REALLY gonna use them?? :? :? :? :?

BUT... its your axe. If you want a weather sensing atomic-clock linked digital truss rod adjuster (nickel plated, of course), then go for it!! :lol: :lol: / 8) 8)

I know what you mean (believe it or not)...its just that I like toys. :lol:

It's not like I'd switch things up mid song, but think about it...out of phase and in series through that Germanium London (I know that this will sound filthy nasty btw). Just wait till I get my filthy little canuck paws on an octavio!! :twisted:

Maybe it would sound like asshole, but it would do it in fine fashion. I just think it would be cool to experiment with all those possibilities, and its only a few extra dollars. Plus, when all those gizimo's are dissengaged, it'll just be 50's style wired anyways.

I MUST stress, that I see what you mean though, and that option is always on the table. Either way, they are coming 4 conductor'd, so my options are always open. I am 90% positive that I at least want to do a phase switch (Peter Green in the middle position), and maybe the parallel series. Most coil taps always sounded cheezy to me, like they were trying to be strats and failing, but they were'nt great guitars

Btw...I am one of those losers who would find a reason to use heated hubcaps :wink:

Sorry Travis. I felt compelled to reply to fill's comment. I do agree though; just use standard or 50's wiring. Les Paul's are what they are, if you know what I mean. I play strats a lot too so I know where you're coming from.

No worries Toner, I know that if I go elaborate, it will be overkill, so I've as good as removed the first option from the list. I'll leave Page's wiring scheme to Page. I also agree that a Paul should be a Paul, especially since the tones that I idolize are for the most part, stock guitars into stock amps (Page being an exception, the bastard :lol: :wink: ).

You have to admit though, the neck and bridge out of phase sound really cool in a Paul, so if I can access both in and out of phase, why not go for it?

Thats really bizarre that he never got back to you, I have emailed him several times in the last few months, to talk about what exactly I was after in a pickup, and his replies were always pretty quick. A couple times though, his spam blocker blocked me, so maybe your email was blocked.

I'll definately post a review, since I'm sure some would be interested in how they perform.

Wdelaney...not a bad idea, but I use all my controls to tailor my sound to suit whatever I might be playing. I like having more control over my pickups so that the neck can be rolled back for clean, and the bridge set nice and crunchy. I don't find the controls on a Les Paul as easy to get at. If I get a backup guitar, I would look at a scheme like that, since the simpler the better, from a reliability standpoint.

BTW, about a zillion years ago, back when "I knew everything", one of the first guitars I ever built was an SG style axe, with 3 pups, 3 volumes, 3 tone controls, and 7 (not a typo... 7) switches. :roll: It had every tap~phase~coil~reduction~expansion~mirror ball~raccoon tail that I could throw at it. Life seemed good.

Reality: It looked like something ripped from the flight deck of the British Airways Concorde.

I remember going to my brother-in-law (a VERY accomplished guitar player at that time) with this science experiment gone haywire, saying "Hey... Jimmy!!!! Look at THIS"!!!! I just KNEW :roll: he was gonna be blown away by all my "badness" in being able to create this bastard son of a NASA launch control panel.
He took one look at all those knobs and switches I was so proud of, and promptly said "if I ever tried using that at a gig, it would just serve to confuse the shit out of me, not to mention I'd probably rip a finger off on all those switches sticking out of the guitar."

I was crushed. I've never put an unnecessary switch / pull knob / push knob / twist knob / light bulb / or shower head on a guitar since. :oops: :oops:

(its since sorta put on hold my plans for that guitar with the automatic, mid-riff scale length adjustment mechanism, though... I just KNOW it would catch on!!) :lol: :lol: / 8) 8)

Isn't there a Steinberger that is adjustable scale? I thought I read about one once.

Octavio are hard for some to appreciate, but they are so cool, I get ideas for riffs just by looking at them.

My flux capacitor always works perfect...now you know my secret.

Yeah, relatively recently they came out with something called a "Trans-scale" headless guitar. I've never played one myself, but isnt that sort of just a moveable-on-the-fly capo? I think I've heard that Steinberger is now owned by Gibson, so that would explain a lot... :? :?

(I do have an original Steinberger from the '80's, and as strange as it looks, it IS a killer guitar. Its so friggin' small though, that it feels like some weird sort of guitar abuse when yer wailing on it!!) :lol: :lol: :lol:
