Metro Superlead Kit Help

Post by Dax-The-Ax » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:01 am

Hello everyone, I am getting the Metro jones again! I really want to build a kit with '68 specs. I am a weird anal bastard, though, I want to scour the step by step to make sure I know where every wire goes before I start. At one time, I knew the wiring in my sleep!! I am going to try to use this thread to ask any questions I have.

I noticed on the instructions it is a little fuzzy on the filter cap in the center of the board near the preamp tubes. Does the ground lug on the Filter Cap attach to a ground lug mounted to the chassis? Then two black wires attach? One going to the board and one goung to the ground buss on the pots? Thanks.

Dax, I'm almost finished reworking those 100-watt instructions. So if you don't have the kit yet, by the time you do a much more detailed set of step-by-step instructions will be ready to go. I'm sure George will want to ponder them over as well to be sure he's happy with them.

I'm not sure how to break them down to post here for download yet though -- the complete PDF file through the assembly is 30meg, and I still have the testing instructions to go. It will have to be divided into sections somehow to post on the forum......

It's a lot more detailed. I just finished the last assembly page. 49 pages instead of 15 or so, and I tried to address a lot of the common issues we keep encountering over and over here on the forum throughout.

I still have to do the testing section, and then there's the diagrams to finish as well.

Flames, do you have an ETA on the new instructions. I'm probably going to order another kit soon. Probably a 68.

If you need help optimizing it for size, and divide it up, PM me.

I'm not sure if I misunderstood Dax's original post.....when he said a kit to '68 spec I took that to mean the standard '69 kit with some values changed. It's the standard '69 plexi instructions that I'm working on right now.

If George decides he's interested in a step-by-step for the '67/'68 kit I'm more than game however. Previously he didn't have the time to support it and didn't want to offer it in the same way as the '69 he was already offering for that reason.

Sorry if I misunderstood and misled everyone as to what I was working on.

I assumed you meant the standard kit instructions.

Yeah, I meant the standard '69 kit with the '68 values on the board. In the circuit board layouts there is one for the'68 and one for the '69. I am looking for a little cleaner Hendrixy sound. If that's a word!

The '67 circuit works great for those kind of tones. To me, a '69 has too much gain and upper-mids for that. Just my opinion.

I am definitely not skilled enough to build a '67. I take one look at the on board filter caps and I crap my pants and forget my name. If I had the money, Or should I say if I could explain to my wife why I need more Marshalls, I would buy one tomorrow, or the '66 JTM45/100.

Hi Dax, don't let these things scare ya, they're a piece a cake. Here is a link to my build photos of my early 68, they are high resolution photos so they may help you with future builds. These photos also include for the 68 with effects loop and PFMV mods, as well as international voltage taps. Hope this helps.
