PUs for my SG

I'm looking for opinions on new pickups for my 70's Gibson SG.
It's all mahogany with smaller block inlays. As of now I don't have
any PUs in it at all and I don't know where the originals are since
I moved about 5 times since then. I'm looking for a nice clear
articulate tone with some balls that would go perfect with a Metro
-amp 12000 series. I play all kinds of music but mostly classic stuff.
I also need a bridge PU for my Explorer which is also all mahogany.
Your input is much appreciated

Note: The SG has an ebony fretboard and the Explorer has rosewood.
I had a Duncan SH-6 in my SG & Explorer but there's too much
saturated distortion going on with them.

Seriously, I got a set of WCR Fillmore's in my SG and they kick major ass.

Hate to sing in chorus but Ill give another vote for Fillmores or Darkbursts. Awesome PAF tone.

Man, if they were T-Tops... THAT"S what I recommend you putting BACK in there ! ! !

for the replies. I was on the WCR site and I think I'm gonna
get a set of Fillmores for the SG and maybe a Darkburst bridge
for the Explorer. I got a Duncan 59 in the neck position.

JimiJames, I took the originals out at the time when DiMarzio
was coming out with Super Distortions. I really don't know what
the original PUs were in the SG other than they were either waxed
or someone told me the covers were epoxied which I never heard
of. Back then it was really cool to have the exposed coil look and I
was 17 then so looks won over sound. But really the reason I put
the DiMarzio's in was that the Gibsons were feedbacking real bad,
especially through my fuzz box (I don't think they had distortion
boxes out yet).

I can relate with you. I sold or traded gear back then that I wish I would have kept. Oh well, live and learn.

I have a '62 reissue SG that had a crossroads neck & darkburst A2 bridge which sounded really great. Today I installed a set of Skatterbranes. Keep in mind I'm still in the honeymoon stage but as of right now I like the Skatterbranes better............Jesse

Tim Mills (Bare Knuckle pickups) from England has some quality pups, The Mule or Riff Raff, and Wolfetone's are good, too. Fralin's ain't bad either (Vintage hot).

Bareknuckle War Pigs sound nice in an SG. A friend of mine has em in a 62 re-issue. Dirty but not overly dirty.

I recommend highorder t tops. and lollar's low wind imperals looks tempting. I think I'll try those in my ES.

Yes, but the output of them is HIGH, DC: ~22.55k
But from what I've heard, it's still very excellent sounding, and does much more than heavy distortion, have you heard the jazz cleans -clip?
