Is there anything we can do to make this not suck the tone out of the guitar man I tell ya, Ok I tried a brass block LOL made it tinny(bright) sounding?? I even put a Duncan SH-11 wow WTF is up with duncans are all those Duncans pups sound like a misquito I mean paper thin?? The body is basswood, any suggestions??
I thought the brass block was suppose to thicken up and give more sustain?? I want to keep one axe with this floyd, however this will be the last my other two axes are stock trems and sound bad ass thxs to WCR too!

The only way I know of to fatten up a Floyd guitar is to tape a bacon, cheese and mayo sandwich to it.

(Seriously? Its a mutha. That Floyd sucks worse than Courtney Love on X at Spring Break)

Here is a prime example of tone sucking Original Floyd Rose tone sucking guitar, with active EMG pickup, no less:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFUW621lgXY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGBucMbYhMQ
These examples all show the incredibly dead end sound from a plank with a FR, , yes no sustain compared to a vintage trem, blah, blah.
Guess what if a Floyd is not for you, don't play em, granted they take a lot of technique and right hand control , balance and muting to play correctly, but I feel Gary Moore in these clips is able to use the bar to incredible musical triumphs!
imho of course, a vintage Strat trem cannot soar like this dynamite Charvel of old :D :D

Assuming you use 3 springs...
If you get a chance, try to obtain some vintage steel springs and not the pot metal Chinese style.
Insert rubber tubing (or like) in the springs to deaden the "reverb" effect if your an articulate player.

Make sure your pivot points have a knife edge if not file them down with a jewelers file.

you can change out the claw short to long and bottom out screwed all the way to the body. That is if your not a "floater"

Also if your not afraid and crafty, tap & thread and oversized bar...

I personally like the Ibanez EDGE... I dont like that sloppy feel that FR's have

Thanks that's it right there!! I like to have this floyd set up to float. I like to bend that bar up for Hot summer nights. I can nail without buying that steniberger 10 million dollar guitar but by god thats it. I guess with her floating you will lose sustain and thickness since she is not flush to the body bingo!! I will def. do the other stuff to her, you know also for some reason the TONE ZONE which I took out of her dumb on my part and yes I purchased another anyways seemed to really thicken her up?? Not to down duncans I put that Sh-11 in a stock trem alder body she was fine beyond fine!!
Thanks again!!!!

I have one thing to say Gary Moore is probably the most over looked under rated non talked about guitar player of all time??? Thats in the US tho!! He can sing like Mutha and kick that guitars ass and write killer tunes!! Whatever happed to him??? Thanks for posting those vids man!! Right on!! Stock Trems all the way. Hey after Ed went to the floyd that tone was gone are we all agreed on that statement?? I guess I need to learn how to set these up and tweak them, I only have one guitar with floyd thats enough!!
Thanks all for the replys I appreciate the input!!

Im pretty confident in saying that you could put strings on a 3 week-old roast beef and use stale egg noodles for trem springs, and still get wicked tone and sustain playing thru the rig he's hooked up to.
IMO, that sound stage has everything to do with his tone and sustain, MUCH more so than the guitar he's playing.

(thanks for the clips, though) 8) 8)

fillmore that is true, Gary had all his Roland outboard gear in effect and three 100 watt Marshall heads, so yeah it roars, but I love it, I realise what everyone is saying about Floyd's is mostly true, sure a vintage Strat bridge is superb for less gainy amped up situations and carries more pure tone through the guitar. On Fender's new American Standard, which I haven't played yet, they have reverted to the vintage style of bridge pieces!
I am not a floating trem player for my taste, I like flush mount Floyds for the reason of better tonal transfer and sustain. :)

Gary's amazing 1972 Super Bass, he slaves this to two other Super Leads for that big Wild Frontier sound:

I agree totally. I think the downfall of a Floyd is when it is set up to float. If its against the body when at rest, the tone improves dramatically. 8) 8)
(which really sucks, cause being able to do a pull-up is a very usable effect) :? :?

Got her

Post by IloveMyMarshall » Mon Feb 11, 2008 7:18 pm

Well Numer one about the Duncan Sh-11 which is a major kick ass pickup, if you have her hooked up CORRECTLY LOL( and probably the problem with my 59 I had at one time) after checking the duncan wiring diagram OOPS repeat duncan not dimarzio lol anyways all is well on the floyd after doing some simple things and adjustments with the block and springs and I still have her floating she sounds great!
Im still working/tweaking on the stock trem doing a few things she is almost there where I can dive and she stays pretty much in tune with the nut butter lol and the removal of the EB tree. I took that tone zone took the V out put a II in her SWEET!!
Hey can anyone in here can route??? And has anyone tried fenders LSR roller Nut??

Ilovemymarshall, I also am sorta torn between the origional Fender trem and a Floyd. I go through phases of likeing one over the other, but I always come back to the realization that the Fender bridge, with its fat block and 6 screws, is the ultimate (imho) in dynamic tone. The Fender is more resonant and dynamic.

I swear,my stock '84 Tokai copy of a '56 strat, single coils and all, sounds more like EVH than my Warmoth/floyd/custom custom pu strat. The point being is that Ed himself sounded SO much better when he had the stock Fender bridge. Put on the second VH record and compare its FULL VIBRANT tone to say, Diver Down. A floyd just CANNOT sound as good as a Fender bridge imo.

Of course a FLoyd will not sound as good as a stock style Fender trem. A Fender style trem can't float and stay in tune like a Floyd either. Different tools for different styles of play. People should stop complaining about certain gear when they are trying to make it into something its not.

I also never hear anyone talk about the different tones you CAN get with a Floyd that you cannot get with a Fender style trem when the tremolo is set to float.

B Took the string trees off
C Bender nut Sauce

I won't ever buy a pre manufactured guitar ever again Im making another
Fender schallers 30.00
Fender body hard ash 70.00 all natural look no paint ;-)
Birds eye maple 9.5 Radius 120.00
wilkinson reissue Fender stock trem big ass block 40.00
Dual Humbuckers T ZONE with AII and another SH-11 with three way switch 120.00
$380.00 Smackarroooos for the perfect axe well for me anyways ;-)--------

I go to a music store grab a 2500 axe it feels llike shit it plays like shit and well I cant afford 2500.00 to begin with lol
