the 80's had just as much importance of any other decade of the development of guitar and music... like the music or not one of the biggest developments as far as guitar playing goes came from the 80's!

Steve Stevens is what i call a guitar players guitar player. he is a result of listing to whats been going on around him. great player? yes he is. innovative? yeah sure he is. creative? completely.
hes done a great job of borrowing the vocabulary of others before him and saying something with it.
do i respect him as a player? completely.

i just had to respond to such an absolutely bizarre statement!.... to me that is ;) :P

Dont get me wrong, the 80's wasnt ALL bad.

Im only 31. I was brainwashed with Hendrix and Trower at the age of 7.Then got into Black Sabbath when I was 12. I was a teenager in the early/mid 90's. Then I was into the "seatle sound" ('scuse the cliche term) of cats like Jerry Cantrell, Kim Thyill, Mike McCready, etc..and into some metal stuff from the time. (PanterA, C.O.C. , Crowbar, DOWN, etc) Aside EVH and Randy Rhoads, I just wasnt into the 80's sound.

BUT

Steve Stevens is bad ass 8)

Steve Stevens Set to Release Solo Album
Tuesday, 05 February 2008
HOLLYWOOD (February 5, 2008) - After a decade, the much anticipated Steve Stevens solo album is set for release - MEMORY CRASH hits March 4th, 2008 on Magna Carta Records.

Steven's spent the last few years out on tour in support of Idols album "The Devils Playground." Once off tour, Stevens spent time orchestrating his new album and signed to Magna Carta Records. He spent the last year meticulously laying down the tracks to his newest guitar masterpiece.

Choosing a very retro-contemporary style, Stevens decided he would make this a very real and well conceived album, something that has not been heard in years. Reasserting the quality that made him a star, Stevens just calls it good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. It's just Steve Stevens, his guitar, and his beloved effects - all the ingredients that make's this album a work of genius.

MEMORY CRASH boasts such tracks as "Water on Ares", "Hellcats Take the Highway", "Small Arms Fire", an interpretation of Robin Trower's' "Day of the Eagle" (featuring Dug Pinnick of King's X), and the rousing/psychedelic "Cherry Vanilla." "I have a lot of weird little segues going on with this record," Stevens explains. "I've always loved that about the prog records, like Dark Side of the Moon. You enter this little theater of the mind. It's a true headphone experience."

Guitar World magazine once said that Steve Stevens "orchestrates the growls and snarls that come of his guitar much the same way that Bernstein conducts the Philharmonic." It's this variety of aural characteristics that also explains Stevens' musical career path. Not only is he the longtime musical partner and friend of British punk-rock icon, Billy Idol-together delivering the million-selling albums BILLY IDOL, REBEL YELL, WHIPLASH SMILE, VITAL IDOL, GREATEST HITS as well as a new CD, DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND-but he's a Grammy Award winner (Best Rock Instrumental for his work on the TOP GUN Soundtrack), a sought-after songwriter (co-wrote "Bolero" for the ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO Soundtrack), a noted session guitarist (Michael Jackson, the late Robert Palmer, The Cars Ric Ocasek and most recently, Pink), and a solo artist with two vastly divergent albums, rock

Queens on the edge of NYC, I didn't even read that, that's not my writing, it's some jumped up PR yuppie.. .
Brooklyn will be glad to hear Queens is on the edge..
The thing with Steve is to erase Billy Idol and his vibe, when you listen to Steve, he definitely always has had his own thing, he may have a discerning ear, shall we say, but he backs this up with solid guitarmanship.

I KNOW YOU know that, Dave!

You also know that "The City" means Manhattan and there are plenty of people in Brooklyn who consider Queens "The Island" and many people in Nassau / Suffolk who consider Queens part of the city. And also many peolple in Queens who feel orphaned from BOTH sides! :D

For those who aren't familiar - New York City is composed of 5 boroughs on 3 separate land masses. Manhattan on Manhattan Island, Staten Island ("Is Dat an" Island) on Staten Island ('magine that!?!), The Bronx on the mainland and Brooklyn (Kings County) and Queens County on Long Island. Nassau and Suffolk counties are also on Long Island. But "The Island" usually means Sufflok, "out East".
