getting back to the meat of this post...

you'll see for youself on the link of a nice vertually untouched 1964 Strat. the back of the neck pocket is scraped clean of paint. Its IMO to aliagn the neck without adding a shim in the front of the neck. This way the mass of the necks wood lays flat and tignt against the surface of the body.

Im pretty sure thats a '66 Strat, not a '64. The large headstock and the transitional logo are indicative of a '66.

Hi Fill,

The Seafoam Strat is My 66, I was refering to the 1964 S Strat on the Ebay link thats posted. If you click on one of the pictures that shows the body with the neck seat you can ID that the back of the pocket was scrapped.

here is a pic of a LPB 1966 refinished Strat body that I had to scrape . Sorry I don't have after pics

That Seafoam Green Strat of yours is REALLY nice. Is that also a re-fin, or is that an original color?
Godin guitars also puts no paint or finish of any kind in their neck pockets, or on the heel of the neck where it contacts the neck pocket. I think its pretty much universally agreed that this direct wood to wood contact is the best method for a connection between these two points on a bolt-on neck guitar.

The seafoam green body you see is a Fender Am RI 62 Nitro that is really extra light in weight for some reason.
I do have an original '65 seafoam green with its original finish coming my way soon. I like the early to mid 60's contours on the bodys. Its not talked much about, but the way they contoured pre CBS, was art IMO. It also made the body more slinky
comfortable and lighter. Jags and Jazzmasters feel nice but weight
more.
Check out the cool contour (not mine) on the old refinished CA Strat body
I'm not certian the dated except it pre CBS. Some of the contours of the
pre CBS carried into '65 and some of '66

nice drawing, thats way i like this forum George has got here... there is alot talent and ideas here. I don't mean this as a put down on any other forum, but from amps to transformers to tubes to artists to
instraments to sound etc. its broad with many people contributing, and your drawing, is a good example of this.

yes I agree, I like those lines of those old Strats. They are a throw back to those cool early Vette's Cobra's Ferrari's designs, of course for me it was down at the bowling ally's slot car track was as close to driving for me in 1963. Those colors also like candy apple red and others Fender
had out as custom colors were used on cool cars of the day. We had one
of those old two tone green chevy station wagons. One tone close to the seafoam green color. There was one around a few weeks ago and it looked real nice, 2Door station wagon though, cool

Some of the guitars from the '50's and '60's definitely have that old hot rod car vibe for sure, with the design lines, and Duco colors that were used.
Slot car tracks... man that brings back a lot of cool memories. Too bad that kind of stuff is a thing of the past now.

Yeah Fill, I agree, too bad it was a very cool time.

Playing pinball, smoking ciggeretts at 37 cents a pack in the back of the bowling ally, along with the music that was coming out then was new and had a great feeling to it. Metalflake paints were new and the rage. Dino the dinosour, Phillups 66 and Esso - put a tiger in your tank was the major choice for gasoline.
Couple years later brother heads to nam, and later the race riots in Newark sort of made the happy 50's-60's suspect.
Saddly I remember the day in high school, later after school with my buddies when we got the sad news JH died, i'll never forget that overcast
fall day.

EDIT: mentioned Newark because when my grand parents moved there from Germany and dumped thier money into a large multifamily house in Newark, after the riots, which was close by, we had to sell it for next to nothing in the early 70's. No silver spoon for me.

Yeah the early to mid 60's were cool.
