I Found it!!

Help!! I found the Gibson HB-L pickup i've been looking for, But, the cover is gold, can i just unsolder it and put the chrome pickup cover on?

Shit Balls!! I also realized that the 6 screws on the pickup are gold! What about removing these and putting in the Chrome ones?

Usually you would just unsolder and replace the cover. But that pickup frightens me -- I wouldn't touch it with an iron personally.

Well, on a more positive note, since the gold plating usually wears pretty quickly you could try just polishing it until it's silver.........

Hey Flames, is it safe to remove the 6 screws, or poles, polish them and put them back in? Or will removing them screw em up? I could disassemble the thing and have it chromed.

By screws, I assume you mean the adjustable pole pieces. If so, then yes, you can take them out and replace them with silver ones. Won't hurt a thing as long as you get the right size ones to replace them with. As for the cover, I have to agree with Flames in saying I don't know how that pickup works. It looks like a normal pickup that just has a small PCB on the bottom to attach the coil leads to. But who knows if there is anything else different about the way it is constructed.

Fuck it!! I have a friend in the UK who is saving me an HB-L for the bridge and an HB-R for the neck. Problem for me is he won't be home until the end of june and i'm impatient. I don't have any wiring, soldering or amp building projects right now and i'm having withdrawals!! I,ve been wiring up short patch cables for jumpering channels because i'm board! This place has warped me!! I'll just wait.

Thanks
