Gigged an SG Last Night

Post by jfhudak » Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:28 am

Hey Fellers,

I got a chance to crank up an SG through my Marshall last night. My 11 year old son is a drummer (the kid is good, he can hang), and he wanted to play in his school talent show as a band. My brother is a bass player, so we did a little power trio thing and played "No Matter What" by Badfinger. (You should have seen the looks on everyone's faces when they saw my purple Marshall up there!!!)

The auditorium at his school is pretty big, so I was able to open it up a little. When I hit that crunchy A riff at the beginning, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. THAT'S what I call a Gibson/Marshall sound! It was clear, cutting, and had tons of balls but there was no harsh to it at all. In fact, it's the best that Marshall has ever sounded.

So, my conclusion is that SGs, along with Firebirds, are my guitars. I can see why they are so popular!!

SG's suck. I'm making sure they're not used by keeping them in storage. Send me yours. They can keep these pitiful friends company.

Nice collection ya got there, Jimbo!!!! ;) I just sold my 54 last night, so I'm buying my VOS 61 with the Maestro next week.

Hey, have you tried those SG Classics? You know the ones that are sort of based on the SG Specials from the 60s? They look pretty cool, and at less than 900 bucks, a pretty good deal.

Peace,

I have an '05 SG Classic that I like very much. I've owned quite a few SGs over the years, and this is the one I kept.

That's a nice guitar dude! I played one at GC awhile back and I was quite impressed with it.

That'll be my next guitar I think. Dual P-90s is a great sound.

Thanks for posting the pic!! ;)

SGs have nice easy access to the upper frets... (apparently even with the guitar behind your head!!)

Angus Young signature SG is the best guitar out there IMO! I have owned virtually every guitar under the sun and gentlemen I have found my nirvana :D I just got my hands on one and put a R.S. Guitarworks kit in it and it is heaven made out off mahogany!!!!!!!

The only real drawback I ever got with my SG was the balance issue. It really wasnt a big deal. I had a 98 'standard' or whatever. It was the first Gibson I bought. My first thought moving to Les Pauls was that they were darker which isnt necessarily a good thing. Or bad. Different.

SGs are awesome. I like the 61 reissues with pickup rings. I don't much care for the standards full pickguard.

I love SGs. I own the Classic as well and its great for anything I play. The p-90s are perfect in an SG :)
