But in the end, well worth the extra effort. 8) 8)

Anybody know a source for narrow stainless fretwire? I've been wanting to refret my LP custom with the same skinny frets that are on there except stainless, but my guy can get it. The nickel wears out to quick on the skinnies , IMO.

Ill bet Warmoth would sell you a length of SS fretwire, and they do have it in a few different sizes.

Guy's, with all due respect to all who's posted, can you all not hear the difference in tone between the regular nickel frets and the ss ones ? It is VERY noticable to me. The ss frets sound 'harder', brighter and stiffer in comparison. I notice alot of you guy's are using these ss frets on warmer toned intruments (Les Pauls and Gibsons in general). Maybe the added clarity and brightness is of benefit to those guitars, but on brighter strat style guitars, the ss frets are a detriment to tone.

Youve replaced them on a neck that already had normal frets? Im wondering because Ive thought about the SS myself but havent done it yet because I just wasnt sure about it. But if you say the neck w/ss is brighter then one without thats not as good a comparison as one that was changed to SS.

+1

Fret nippers take a pounding too.
Also, if the board is not perfect to start with, trying to level them to take account of any imperfections takes a big toll on files.
Only the diamond files last the distance in my experience.

If your a player who really 'attacks' the strings with alot of alternate picking licks, then you better have a very dark sounding amp, cause the ss frets are way bright, and even feel sorta 'clinical' feeling. They make bending easier and are very durable. They arent as good sounding as the nickel though.
