I am just about to order the EVH "68 specs package" from Metroamp. It is listed as an option under the bare bones kit. I am excited to build this amp and use it with an old Marshall checkered board cab I recently installed Weber "stan spec" speakers in.
Here is some information about the EVH "68 specs package":
"By popular demand, we are trying out a complete early 68 era parts package option. This includes everything needed to build to EVH specs. Tubes, head case etc. Please note that no step by step instructions are included. But layouts and wiring diagrams are."
See the complete parts list here: http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?t=9972

I think you have what you need!
... but since we don't know for sure what the EVH's amp specs really are, everybody has a slightly different version of what the EVH specs might be.
Ten guys = ten EVH specs.

I think it's kinda misleading for me to call it EVH specs. There's way too many opinions and speculations on what that really means. I'll update the listing to say " early '68 era specs, from the same era as EVH's famous Superlead".
FWIW I build my '68 replicas to the specs that I feel are most common from this era. And tonally most accurate to this era. If you want accurate I suggest looking at masterkeepers 12 series, John from Sozo's 12 series and some examples at amparchives.com
If you want EVH tones, over circuit accuracy, read through some of Rockstah's threads. He has documented most variations and their affect on tone.

Take one of George's 68 spec builds, variac it to 100V and hit the 400v setting on the standby switch and voila...VH1!!!!
I know because that is my tone right there.

If they could have just opened up the EVH amp in the MIKE DOYLE book and shown ehat was inside. Apparantly it was no more then a spec amp. nothing special. Other then the outside things he did i.e variac, etc.. Idef. No expert on the Evh tone But I will say That George has the tone nailed ! plexi guys too. Like George said. So many opinions on the subject. Iam going to be getting an attenuator soon and have checked out the whole deal ,. it just sems pricey to burn thru your tubes like that . I dont Know . Rock Stah is up on his stuff though. Hard to keep up with all his mods on this and that from his 2203s to his 68 specto his other amps. He uses all the amps he builds or at least which ever he wants to take on the road. so thats cool.VelvetGeorge wrote:I think it's kinda misleading for me to call it EVH specs. All you need is a 68 (I use a George built metro 12 Series), hit the low (400V) voltage switch on the power transformer and variac the amp to 100V.
Gang the two channels (both almost dimed and all controls full up (bass set to 0).
I use a '74 reissue MXR Phase 90 with that and I dare say that this is as close as I would ever get to VH1 without Ed actually playing my guitar.
It's no big secret.
I also do not set any bias any differently...if it unconventional to do so then it is. The sound out of that amp with the greenbacks is scary!
