500 k pots, where to get them without buying a kit ?!

Post by electricskychurch » Mon Apr 21, 2008 8:54 am

as many guitar pot sellers are selling wiring kits, i wonder where it's possible to buy some 500k pots that really measure close to 500k, cause i suppose they use all the high values pots for their kits and reject the 450 to 490k pots to sell separatly !

i sincerly don't see the point in buying wiring kits so expensive when i can do it myself as well, for much cheaper, using the caps i want ( usualy less expensive than the ones most of them sell), so i'd like to know where i can buy some pots where i'm sure i won't only buy the pots rejected from the kits selection.

Here's a site by John Wymore, who used to have a site called Black Rose Custom. I bought a couple dozen from him back then and all were measured and marked by him and varied between 498 and 501.

Anyway, this is his new site. Can't hurt to ask him if he'll find you specific values.

The kit places, like RS Guitarworks, sell the pots seperately too.

I believe Jim Wagner of WCR pickups has pots and tone caps now.

Four 500k pots, and traditionally two 0.022 caps. Some prefer a 0.015 cap for the neck pickup. A lot of people like the RS Guitar Works kits. I just put one in my 2000 R8 and it made a big difference in usability of the controls and linearity of tone as volume is rolled down.
