Line6 modelers

Has anyone tried the Amp modeler,delay modeler or distortion modeler? I was mainly looking at the delay because I really don't like my marshalls reverb. I like that old empty box sound that the old recordings have. I'm sure that was an echoplex or tube echo. This is more affordable though.

I heard that Danelectro Reel Tape delay sounded pretty cool. The EH Holy Grail reverb is pretty neat as well.

I've had a Line6 DL4 Delay Modeler for two years now and I really like it.
I bought mine mostly for the Loop Sampler but the other effects are great too. They're very well built and reliable.

I dont think the Delay modeler sounds anything like the delays it models. With that in mind I have one and I love it.

what about the Ibanez AD-9 and Maxon AD-9? what are their difference other than $100.00. I just want something to open up my sound. nothing boingy. Trying to get that empty room sound.

( I already play in an empty room!! HAH )

The maxons are all amazing sounding pedals. But keep in mind theyre analog delays. They sound very lo fi. Most dont have very long delay times. And you can use them in FX loops or anything like that. My other delay is a Deluxe Memory man. I love analog delay but its fussy at times like a fuzz in some ways.

Dan, Are the Ibanez and maxon different?

Im not familiar with the Ibanez. Well not any new Ibanez pedals if thats what your refering to. The maxons are like the old TS analog pedals but they arent 100% the same because the maxons are usually longer in time and quieter. More consistent. Like the tone of an analog meets the useability of digital. To a degree anyway. Ive wanted the big maxon (AD900 I think) for a long time. What I REALLY want is a Fulltone TTE. But Id have to sell my SLO to get that.

Just a question on this subject...Does everybody here use reverb or delay in front of the amp or in an effect loop? I was wondering about the signal getting muddy through the phase inverter on a marshall circuit (specifically, the 18 watt). In a home just jamming, I'm not going to mike my amp and process the signal. I guess my only choice is a Holy Grail or equivalent in front of the amp and hope for the best. Anyone have any experience with this before I buy?

Muddy isnt the word for it. Delay and reverb repeat the original sound and when theres overdrive happeneing after those effects the dry sound is distorted together with the repeats like your playing an interval. I always say listen to 'nothing as it seems' by pearl jam. He kicks in the delay in the second half of the intro solo which is before a Super Lead head. Its cool but not really ambient. Not echoey is probably a better way of saying it. For the sound of reverb being distorted listen to the live Santana album Lotus.

Even with an FX loop the PI, anf power tubes will compress and distort the post ambience signal. The only way to add true delay or reverb is to use alternate means which is a pain in the ass. That being- a slave rig for wet dry cabs, or adding it after the mic. Many people have small boards they use to mic their own setup then add delay and have the sound guy put it through the monitors or some people even have a powered speaker along to monitor the delay sound like those JBL eon speakers. Its a bitch no doubt about that.
