Malmsteen Strat Vintage White Maple Neck!

Hi guys anybody here is a malmsteen fan and has his signature guitars. I am seriously looking in getting one that is 2nd hand for sale.

My friend here is Australia was the tech for Malmsteen when he toured in Australia, he is still baffled in how he gets his tone so huge and fat, l think its in his fingers.

What is your fav?

Vintage white, Sonic Blue, Candy Apple Red.

Rosewood or maple fret board?

Does Rosewood make any difference even if it scalloped?

I'd say go for the vintage white and all maple neck. But, depending on what you are gonna spend, you can actually order great necks and bodies from a company 'Musikraft'. You could come out cheaper that way if you do some of the work yourself. I personally dislike scalloped fretboards,so I wouldnt want a Yngwie signature strat, but other than that (scalloped board) I would. I say build one yourself to exact 70's spec's.

WOW Yngwie308! Nice guitar how long have you had it and what year model is this one? How do you find it to play? I have an offer with a Vintage white with rosewood fingerboard and 30% off the price so it looks tempting. How do you find the workmanship and finish and sustain with this one compare to the earlier ones? I heard this model is the best in production, True or False.

Check out the Fender website on the Malmsteen model and click on colours and they dont even have Sonic Blue listed HUH? what missed out or discontinued? Who knows!

Yngve, mine is a 2005 YJM and it is a fantastic guitar, I prefer maple fingerboards on the majority of Strats, especially scalloped necks.
The machine mounting screws are new on the 2007 YJM USA model, having been previously available on the MIJ YJM's. This duplicates Yngwie's stage guitars from the Duck onwards, stemming from his conversion of the three bolt neck mounting to 4 bolt. The machine screws and corresponding brass inserts in the neck, rigidly mount the neck, allied with the bullet truss rod exactly duplicates Yngwies stage guitars.
The only flaw in the YJM models is the propensity for the high E string to be mounted too close to the edge of the fingerboard, causing the string to slip off the neck whilst playing, this effect heightened by the extreme scallops.
The 2007 and on models have deeper scallops than the MK II YJM's ('98-'06).
I would hold out for a new model Maple board as this is the optimum combination and the specification that Yngwie himself prefers.
The "Modern C" neck profile is just more rounded than the D shape which can be found in early seventies models. There is a slight differnce in dimensions on the 2007 profile from the MK II models.

The FENDER Customshop is making a replica of the famous Duck guitar. Check it out but l dont thik l would get it. As far as l know about myself l will end owning 2 Malmsteen guitars probably Vintage White and the Sonic Blue
with all maple fingerboards. But l would like to do a comparison with one Maple and one Rosewood to hear the difference or is it just cosmetic.

Hamer Chapparal, with 24 frets ebony board, OFR, OBL S/S/HB, love that guitar.
I have been inquiring about the Duck for almost 3 years now, too much money though..

What is the price for one? Also is it going to be a continuous guitar on offer at the Fender Customshop?

What gauge strings do you have on the Malmsteen Beast?

Is it hard to play on? I am taking the plunge and order one.

Does it sustain acoustically well come to other fender customshop guitars.

And finally how does it stack up to the Customshop guitar as its a signature model, does it get the same treatment? ie selection of woods.

I have the fender dealer going to sydney to a fender convention and he is going to check out the malmsteen strat they have at the warehouse, only one available in the country Vintage White Rosewood fingerboard. Its at a good price, he is the authorised Fender repairer for Australia and he is very fussy when it comes to choosing a guitar for anybody.

So many questions, so little time,

I use Dean Markley Yngwie's Magic strings, these are the ones with bullet ends on the strings corresponding to the vintage trem, Part # 8815 gauges are:
E .008
B .011
G .014
D .022
A .032
E .048
There also is the #8814 set with the low E that is .046.
Yngwie uses the .048 set.
Some have complained about the strings breaking, I broke one straight off, but haven't had any problems since.
I have the Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor, the Analogman Mojo modded DOD YJM308, a mid/hi cut Analogman modded Boss DD-6, my great Korg SDD-3300 triple digital delay rackmount.
And my Metro modded Marshall Handwired 1959 Super Lead with two HW 4X12' cabinets, no attenuation.
The Duck guitar will be any extremely limited one time production guitar and I am expecting a substantial price.
The YJM's are as great a guitar as the Custom Shop '69's, imo.
They have a real Hendrixy vibe to them and of course the YJM and HS-3 DiMarzio pickups are awesome in tone and quiet.
What is the import duty to Australia?
The YJM 2007-08 models list for US $1529.99 plus tax, Vintage White, Candy Apple Red and Sonic Blue, rosewood or maple boards, the price has increased by $100 since last year.
You should though try the scalloped fingerboard first before you buy as it takes quite a modification in technique to play, especially chordal shapes.
The touch required is quite light and on Yngwie's personal guitars, he has very high action, this gives you the ability to modify your string bends and vibrato to a great degree.
If you find that you cant get to grips with the scallops, then I would get a Custom Shop '69 Strat and load YJM and HS-3 pickups in that and still have a killer Malmsteen type guitar. In fact Yngwie's stage guitar #3 is a real '68 that he has scalloped and is one of his favorite guitars.

The guy at the music store is willing to get the Malmsteen Strat the Vintage White with Rosewood for me to try no Sweat! And if l dont want it then its cool. Also he asking 2400 AUS for it thats $ 2,330 USA dollars inculding Tax plus frieght etc. Normally they retail here $3700.00

So you can see why l am wanting to try out and he is willing to do it. The fact is l have play scalloped long time ago when l was 15 years old. And l have forgotten how it felt, but l am willing to give it a go and do the hard yards in learning.

Would 9-42 do find on the Malm Strat?

Someone told me that the larger Fender Headstock adds more sustain to the neck is this true?
