i've been searching for some infos about the 50's and modern wiring but it seems both wirings were used by Gibson since the fifties !
at least from what the people from Gibson's custom shop say !
they seem to say the guitars (at least some) they used to make their historic collection didn't have the 50's wiring .
i just tried it on a sg61 ri and it seems interesting although i don't really know which i prefer !
the 50's wiring seems nice to get some clear clean tones when you back up the volume knob.
for some funky rhythm and licks.
the neck pu seems clearer than usual.
the peak resonance seems to work better for the woman tone as well.
in another hand, there seem to be less output volume, and maybe a bit darker (not sure ) than with the modern wiring when all the pots are maxed (although i read it should sound the same when both pots on 10 !) . weirdly, the tone get clearer when you lower the volume pot a bit !
the tone control isn't easy to deal with (strarts to roll the highs very late ; from 5 to 0 or so ) but the peak resonance shifting is interesting although it could be more interesting if the peak was stronger.
the other thing to deal with is the tone coming "weak " quiet soon when you back up the volume pot . it seems to be thinner, with less body but it can be interesting sometimes .
does someone know if both wirings were used regularly from the 50's ?
and when the "modern" wiring became standard ?
i really wonder what wiring were using most of the guitarist we talk about here ?
any infos about that ?
50's wiring Vs modern wiring ?!
