They are not worth it to me. #1 I can't afford that kind of $. #2 for me it would be like having a fine shotgun -- you're too scared to take it hunting for fear it will get a scratch, so all it does it sit in the safe, or in this case the case. I also know a 12K or 25K guitar won't help me play any better, so time to start chopping wood.
At it awhile, still learnin'

Another thing I think about...when our generation dies off will anybody give a rats ass about a Beck/Page/Townsend/Malmsteen/EVH/ SRV and everybody else clone? What will these icons of our growing up be worth the next generation or two? Not much I would tend to think.

I'm with you on that. Can't seem to sit still without changing something on 'em, so I really can't be bothered paying a premium for a guitar that I would seriously devalue.

I tend to shy away from the sig series... I haven't had a guitar yet that I

didn't change out the pots and pickups to alter to my liking... I like to experiment and if I paid the premium for a sig series, I probably would keep it stock and wonder what it would sound like if I changed the ________ (insert pickup, RS Kit, different caps, tailpiece, etc...)

I'm more bothered about how a guitar feels anyway, and the build quality.
Most other things, I can change. Especially the way it looks.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

they gotta be more for collector types, not so much players. how many real players have that kind of money anyway! i think these guitars are way,way overpriced maybe to suggest some sort of prestige that i think is pretty much unjustified.

Thats good point. Even though Im not into the replica-axe thing, I would hope that some kid growing up in the 22nd or 23rd century will appreciate the significance of todays players contributions to music.NY Chief wrote:Another thing I think about...when our generation dies off will anybody give a rats ass about a Beck/Page/Townsend/Malmsteen/EVH/ SRV and everybody else clone? (Thats assuming that humans havent killed the planet by then, and there ARE kids in the 22nd and 23rd century... a whole different discussion for sure.

It's all part of a business model, at least in the GC case. GC bought Blackie, Lenny and the Clapton 335. In order to RECOUP their spent dollars, they license with Fender, get ueber replicas made, charge 20K per axe.they gotta be more for collector types, not so much players. how many real players have that kind of money anyway! i think these guitars are way,way overpriced maybe to suggest some sort of prestige that i think is pretty much unjustified.
Blackie sold for $959,500. Do the math. $20K x 275 units = $5.5 million. Enough to cover the cost of the original instrument, have Fender recreate it, pay Clapton some licensing fees, and still wind up with a profit. All while the original "Blackie" increases in value.
It's called good business.

Everything they do selling replica and custom guitars is assessing themselves the fact that their current production is shit compared to older axes . At the time old axes were sold a ridiculous price even with inflation and they were current production not custom shops , now even an american standard is double or more the price of those who were sold at the time ..... i think the true question is ; current production guitars .. are they worth it ?

The thing that l dont get is, that when you order a customshop guitar the grade of the woods dont seem to be radical different to the Artists series. When l look at my Sonic Blue Malmsteen if has a better grain structure which is tight compare to the customshops, do l thought custom was custom, which consists of AAA grade timbers and also the weight of the guitar are very close lets say 7.5lbs. If you are making a replica of a Malmsteen you would think that would also consider the weight of the guitar as well, well close enough. If Malmsteen used my Sonic Blue guitar for a couple years it would be worth alot more...

I wont go for another persons Axe, cause thats almost, I dont know, sorta too personal to the famous player. I get a feeling like I'm spying on them or something. I do like white strats and black strats, but that doesnt mean that I'm necissarily 'copying' Hendrix, or Clapton, Beck, Blackmore,Trower, Roth,Hazel,Isley, Malmsteen or COUNTLESS others who have played these models/colors. I just dont want someone else's personall abuse and natural wear on MY guitar, I want my own abuse and playing wear if that makes sense.
