Vintage strat neck(Attention strat nuts)

Post by Guitar-Sam » Sat Sep 13, 2008 8:53 pm

Hey,
I just bought this 1974 strat neck to replace the neck on my 25th anniversary strat.
My original neck needs a re-refret since I had it refretted with jumbos and I not only don't like them as much as I thought, but the fret job coulda been a bit better.
Anyways,How does this new neck look to you guys did I do OK?? I know its just a player, but does everything look legit and all with it? Seems good to me.

Looks right to me. Hard to tell from just one pic. Too bad it was drilled for the Schallers, but then again a lot of them were back then.

Cool,Just wanted to make sure, cause the finish doesn't look as yellowed as a 34 yr old strat normaly would be.there should be 12 pics on there.
Yea the schaller holes kinna suck, but Oh-Well Its goin on my old workhorse anyways,so theres no need for matching #s and perfect condition,as long as she plays good.
Now mounting it on my 4 bolt body hum.............weres my DRILL!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate to do it,but thats kinna why I bid on a slightly modified neck anyways, this way I don't ruin a good restoration part.

The reason the finish on the fretboard isnt very 'yellowed' is because Fender started using poly on the fretboard (it is more enviromentally 'friendly' than nitro) which doesnt yellow nearly as bad as nitro. Fender had a problem with the poly on the headstock decals though, (they reacted) so they continued to use the nitro on the headstock. This started in the late 60's I think. That is why the headstock on these era strats is always darker than the fretboard.
