Which Fender Stratocaster type to play Hendrix?
Hi,
I would like to buy a new guitar, but If I look to a shop, there's plenty of Fender Stratocaster types. These are Standard, Classic, Deluxe, Artist, Highway, American (Standard, Classic, Vintage, Deluxe, Special), Custom (Standard, Classic).
I can spend about 3000$ for it. What guitar should I take from this list? What is the most suitable for playing Hendrix?
Or what are the differences between these types?
I'm thinking about American Vintage 62', but is it right choice?
Thx

The various reverse treble pickup Jimi Hendrix model Fenders would be ideal, but any vintage stagger magnet single coil type of Fender pickup would give a close starting point for a basic Hendrix tonal palette. George's JTM 45/100 would give a great sound along with the '67 JTM 100 head. The right Fuzz Face or clone and vintage style Marshall cabs would be best.
Even a vintage '62 or '57 Reissue Strat would give authentic Hendrixian tones...

Thanks Yngwie.
I think I'll go to American Vintage 57' or 62'. I dont have better choice in my country now. But what are the differences?
What could you recommend me from this options ?
fingerboard - Maple/Palisander?
pick-up - 3 Vintage Style Single-Coil Strat® Pickups with Alnico magnets / 3 Vintage Style Single-Coil Strat
I noticed that 57' and 70' models got always pickups with Alnico magnets and 62' model doesn't have Alnico magnets. What's more sufficient?
I use my DIY fuzz faces. It sounds great on my DIY JMP50 combo. I used GC500, GC502 and GC507 transistors and they are sufficient.

What country are you in LordAli and as far as the '62's not having AlNiCo magnets, that's not true, the '57, '62 and '69 Fender pickups are all AlNiCo magnets.
You have to decide if you prefer a maple fingerboard over a rosewood model in the '57 Reissue/maple and the '62/rosewood board.
In the Vintage reissues I prefer the maple boarded '57 reissue.

Re: Which Fender Stratocaster type to play Hendrix?
I'm from Czech. I tried to found dealer on Fender website, but for CZE it's some Slovakian company. But in Prague, there's a great shop which has these types of fender guitars. It's biggest guitar shop in Czech.
I get information from shop's website. I compared 57' 62' and 70' strats and found that '57 and '70 got pickups with Alnico magnets. They didn't write it in '62 models it confused me.
I was thinking about maple fingerboard. But what are the sound differences between '57 and '62? Maybe I'll go to 57' maple fingerboard model.
Thanks Yngwie

Both '57 and '62 RI are loaded with the same pups (Fender 57/62), don't worry about it...LordAli wrote:I get information from shop's website. I compared 57' 62' and 70' strats and found that '57 and '70 got pickups with Alnico magnets. They didn't write it in '62 models it confused me.

Seriously: get an alder body with an reverse bridge pup from warmoth. and get h/srv special pups from callaham and a callaham bridge/tremolo.
if you like the earlier hendrix, go with a rosewood neck, brazillian if possible. if you like the 69-70 era, use a maple neck

Re: Which Fender Stratocaster type to play Hendrix?
That sounds killer Roe, but just for him to get all that in Czech would be a major undertaking in time and expense, it's great we live in a country where we can do all this, but LordAli would be lucky to cop a complete guitar from the sounds of it.
You should decide which style of fingerboard you like playing on, the earlier Hendrix is on rosewood boards, the pre-CBS years and the later maple cap the 69 Strats.
Good luck.

Re: Which Fender Stratocaster type to play Hendrix?
Thank you all very much
If I understand it right, for example for Monterey sound I need strat with rosewood neck? I like rosewood fingerboard because I got guitar with rosewood fingerboard now.
I like music era from 1967 until 1970. Also I like Hendrix's sound from Monterey festival in 1967.

If you can get to Prague, go to the store and play them all... Take the one that feels the best for you.
