les paul studio model opinion's ????

i am still in my search for a gibson les paul. i wonder
what people's opinion of the studio is?
its been stated that its the same as a standard except
the binding, is that true? im talking about 05 and older
no chambering.

My first LP was a Studio. I have no idea what the construction differences are between the Studio and other models, but I thought it was a great guitar.

My first Les Paul was also a Studio, a '96, which I still have. No binding of course, and both the top and bottom seem slightly thinner -- total of probably 3/8" shallower than my Standard. Like any Les Paul, play a few and find the right one, but there's real good ones out there with a little patience.

what im getting at is, do these guitars stand up to a usa
standard? is the only difference the binding? im not worried
about pick ups but wood and construction. according to gibson
these are the same as standards except for the cosmetics.
i dont want to take any big company's word for anything
anymore.

The mahogany in my '96 is quite nice and fairly light. The maple is pretty plain, of course, but about like any plaintop Les Paul. No construction issues. Unplugged it has a nice, warm resonant sound as well. (I never plug a guitar in when I'm selecting in the store anyway -- all I'm interested in is how it resonates unplugged.)

I had a '92 LP Studio *lite*, and I regret the shit outta selling that guitar.
Was Black, and actually had nice Trap inlays, gold hardware and a slim taper neck, it played like butter, sounded great.

well jerry i have seen these studio's used for $800 all over the
place. im thinking of getting one and then saveing up for a historic.
the gereral consensis is that the studio's are equal to a usa std.

at such a low price changeing pu's and pots maby hardware
will be easy to do. it will take me a long time to save 2 to 3 grand
for a historic. this way i will have a real les paul to play untill then.

In my understanding Studio's are the same as Standards minus binding. That is of course in relation to older models not today's standards (which I dont like at all personally).

Anyhow, I used to own a les paul studio mahogany for a while and there wasn't a single construction issue with mine. Awesome guitar. Les paul worn mahogany finish.

That was the one I had in the worn brown finish.

This is no cheaper les paul, its still a carved top like the studio, just didnt have that thick gloss finish on it. It also has the same pickups as the 2008 standards. If I was to need a les paul I'd get one of those. Or atleast try one, theyre usually in stock at most major music stores.

I got rid of it because I traded my strat in for it, then after a year or so I couldnt live without a strat as I am really a strat guy mainly, so I traded it back in in 05 for my american standard strat.
