yes, i understand what you mean about the callaham that made your guitar sound too bright.
recently i tried a Gotoh lightweight tailpiece on my 97' les paul 59 ri that had teh heavier zinc one.
this guitar is already bright enough with the T- tops or other good vintage style low output pu's i put in but i wanted to hear the difference and it was quiet noticeable.
it was brighter and although i will try it for a while , i might get back to teh heavier one on this guitar but might put a light weight one on my otther 59' ri that could have more brightness.

so i thought about the callaham and thinking it might be heavier than the ones on my custom shop time machine 66 and 60 , so it might remove a bit of brightness from them but from what i read on teh web, although it might be slightly heavier , it seems it adds some brightness unlike the heavier zinc tailpiece on my les paul 59 ri that removes some and adds body to the tone compared to teh lightweight tailpiece.
so it might be a good thing as Wolftone seems to say most actual time machine strats don't have an open sound but for mine and the ones of other people that are bright enough, i'm not sure it will be a good thing.
a frien,d that had many strats from custom shop time machine, master built and several original early 60's and mid 60's ones says it will bring teh "good" high end but i'm not so convinced it will replace some brightness with even more of it but better ! LOL

I honestly didnt notice a weight difference holding the guitar, if so its small.

It sounded good unplugged, and when the amp was on it was fine if you played gently with your fingers. If you played with a pick everything became spikey quite easily. I lowered the treble on everything, rolled tone knobs back, tried all sorts of EQs. I slept on it and tried it again and it just was not pleasing for me at all.

I got fed up with it and put the stock back on, even though I had to cut off the brand new strings and waste them, but, my strat was back. I learned a lesson with it and I'm happy now with the stock bridge.

I've played a time machine custom shop 69 strat at a local store about 6 times now, just because I love it so much, and its just fine with the bridge thats on it. Us gearheads love to tamper with everything and try to reveal some secret to it all. In my opinion, pickups are way more worth the money when trying to tweak a strats tone.

when you put a lightweight tailpiece on a les paul to replace the heavy zinc one, you won't feel the guitar is lighter but when you have the tailpiece in your hands you instantly feel teh difference but the callaham block trem is just slightly heavier than teh time machine/ american vintage ones , i'm not even sure you will feel the difference taking just the block trem in your hands .
but compared to the lighter ones used on mexican or japane ones if i remember well, you should feel the difference just holding teh block trem .
