Mac, for your benefit, I gotta correct the Chief here. Just so you know what MIGHT happen when you approach the big 5-0.

Changes in outlook:
(This one is big)

When one views a picture of Waylon Jennings, and instead see's Jimi Hendrix...
My man, THATS a change in outlook.

(Inside joke, Mac, but valid none the less. Beware of "MVOJ"... (Modified Visions Of Jimi). If it can happen to a visionary like the Chief, it can happen to ANYONE!!!!)

No friggin' shit!! Thats awesome, Chief!! Next to the body being made of actual silver, which would be beyond rare, steel is without a doubt the best thing it could be made of, and even then, its totally personal preference as to which would sound better. Honestly, yours is the first that I've known to be verified as steel. I've never seen one myself, and Im really sure that there are very few out there.

I can tell you that my steel Style O Nat slaughters my brass Style O. No wonder you loved it so much!!

IMO, on THAT particular guitar, the steel is gonna lend a raw edge to an already wicked midrangey tone. My fiddle-edge Dobro was brass, and though really nice (a bit mellow, but it had a beautiful tone), Im sure a steel bodied Dobro woulda kicked the shit out of it.
Steel just gives any metal body "cone" guitar a rawness and a rip that I dont think ANY other body material can touch, including silver. Silver has its own distinct tone, but its more of a delicate, almost reverb-y kinda sound. Silver is definitely very cool sounding, but steel?? Steel is bad assed, man. Its instant Elmore James!!!
My "brotherly" ( ) advice, Chief: Dont ever sell that thing!!! If it sounds as good as you say (and Im certain it does) you'll regret it forever, that I can promise you. Plus its super cool that you got such a rare and unique (not to mention killer sounding) guitar for something as special as your 50th.
Personally, I'd sell a LOT of guitars before my steel O would go.
I dont know the numbers on how many steel fiddle edges were made, but to give you an idea about steel body, original Style O Nats, its known that less than 100 were produced before they switched over to brass bodies, which there are quite a lot of. Steel O's are VERY sought after, and Im sure your steel Dobro is too.
(ESPECIALLY BY ME!!)

Lucky bastard!!

Yahoo! Thanks, fill. :D

Now, I gotta get my slide technique better. Too much clunking on the frets right now. It was(still is) in Double Drop D which is a fun tuning to play in. Still looking for the patterns, though.

Speaking of Nat's and Bob Brozman check out this demo vid!

Ahh, whaddaz he know about cones?????

Seriously, Brozman is a killer player. As far as your tuning, are you only dropping both E's to D?

I assume you use traditional open tunings from time to time? They're a little limited compared to standard tuning, or double dropped D, but the patterns are all over the place, and real easy to access. Just by what he's playing, you can tell that Brozman is in open E. (E-B-E-G#-B-E).
Open D (one full step lower, D-A-D-F#-A-D) is also very cool, as is open A (E-A-E-A-C#-E) or open G (D-G-D-G-B-D).

All of 'em have different tonalities, and their own special qualities.
