I know it's gonna sound sweet too, but the poor postman is gonna get sick of me running at him at breakneck speed every day this next week to see if my rectifier is here.........

I know what you mean

Hey flames, sorry I didn't get back sooner, I've been out of town for a couple of days so you're now ahead of me! I'm starting on the circuit board tonight, so that will probably occupy my time for the next couple of nights.

As soon as I have the rectifier in my mitts I'll flip that darned switch. I doubt George had a chance to get that out until today though, so it will probably be Thursday when it arrives.

Flames, it shipped out this morning. You should have got a ship notification email from the postal service. You're only 2 days from me via priority, so plan on wednesday.

I take it you haft to relocate the mounting holes up higher on the chassis to get the 16 uf can to fit, or else it contacts the PT. I also had to drill out the OT mounting holes and choke wire hole as well. Other than those items, so far so good.
May the good Lord take a liking to you!

Are the turrets already in the board on this kit or do you have to sink 'em in yourself? It looks like the turrets are in the board on the 100 watt Plexi kit and I was wondering if this was the same thing.
I'm considering this kit and it will be my first build. Is this kit doable for a firstimer? Flames' post's seem to imply that the instructions are really thourough.

Sorry about the cap mount holes Ricky. We got the measurments reversed on those. I thought I drilled new ones for you.

Why did you have to drill holes for the OT? Both the Heyboer and MM OT's fit the existing ones.

The turrets do come staked in the board.

I'd say this kit is VERY doable for a first timer, seeing as how I'm a newb at this. I just finished assembling my amp last night, but still have the power on and biasing to do. The instructions are damn good, and as I've stated, I have never assembled an amp before. All the pictures are great, and George's step by step format make it very easy to assemble your amp kit.

George, I had some medium brass bolts I'd gotten from you that I had to use on my OT (and not only because there were no large ones in the box........) The holes did look too small sizing them up by eye.

Yes the turrets are already in the board.

I would really recommend this kit for the first timer over the 100 watt kit simply because of the quality of the instructions. The JTM45 step-by-step is vastly improved over the 100 watt instructions. Download some of the pages if you haven't already and check them out, there are a few pages George is still working on but these are very detailed instructions that don't leave anything to guesswork.

The vintage Allen-Bradleys in George's store are probably the only acceptable CC option, new ones won't sound much different than the carbon films. But the price will shoot up loading a kit with those.

The fastener holes on the chassis itself were to small for the large brass mounting bolts. No big deal, I just resized um a tad. This is a new build and little things like this come up from time to time. Besides, we need things like this to keep you in line George! Probably will be throwing the switch tonight sometime. What's the average value bias resistor for the 45's, anyone got a number yet? I may be getting some turrets from you George for a bias pot, I have the perf board so installing a pot would be a breeze.
May the good Lord take a liking to you!
