I've always been curious about those things. What would you say the tonal differences are as compared to the humbuckers that were in there?

Cleaner, more sparkle, more punch and twang. Sound more nazaly to me (all of which I like alot...)
Opened up the sound for me. This LP will break through the mix easily. Made me want to turn down the gain ( well actualy made me turn up the PPIMV and the bright channel volume down). Made me want to play with a cleaner sound....and really dig in for some grit... as opposed to preamp distortion.
I got these not knowing to expect and it was like taking a blanket off the speaker cab.
NOTE: I have not jammed or gigged with these yet. and that for me is the ultimate test of any gear... which often finds it's way to ebay the day after a rehersal...
But I love the sound right now.

They are inexpensive GFS pickups... They look like a good quality built pickup. And I am digging the sound!!

Those GFS pickups have a great reputation over in ProjectGuitar forum. A lot of people love 'em. Nice to hear from another happy customer. The price is right for a Chinese pickup.chubs wrote:They are inexpensive GFS pickups... They look like a good quality built pickup. And I am digging the sound!!

Cool. P-90s sound like the evil love child of a humbucker (balls) and a single-coil (clarity). Just awesome.
At it awhile, still learnin'

I have a wholesale account with WD Music Products---have used their HB-sized P90s on a few projects. I love 'em. I imagine they're comparable to GFS' pickups in quality and sound.chubs wrote:They are inexpensive GFS pickups... They look like a good quality built pickup. And I am digging the sound!!
I concur with fivecoyote, they're the best of both worlds. If you actually USE your tone pots, you can get it all!

I installed some Kent Armstrong hum-sized P-90's in mt LP a few years ago, and have never looked back. The KA pups from WD Music aren't high on the corksniffer list, but they sound darn nice.
I have the "hot" bridge and the "vintage " neck pups. They are a good match

Yes, exactly the pickups I was referring to. Got a pair set aside for a Bastardocaster I plan to build up with a sugar pine Strat body and a 4-way Tele switch. Should be a cool guitar!RussB wrote:I installed some Kent Armstrong hum-sized P-90's in mt LP a few years ago, and have never looked back.
