MASSIVE PICKUP SHOOTOUT

Post by RACKSYSTEMS » Wed May 06, 2009 12:42 pm

So I was involved in a massive pickup shootout the last 2 days. It was done by James Lugo who is a moderator over at Gear Slutz. Here is the link to a thread about it.Lots of cool Marshalls and Jim's Scumback loaded vintage cab.

The playing is amazing on those clips ..I find myself enjoying all the clips lol. Give me any of those damn pickups and the amp and cab to play it through and i am sold. Even the JB. Me likie the motor city second degree black belt though.

I've also got to say DAve, your mods and amp is amazing sounding. I want that damn amp so I better start saving or put off my kitchen reno. When it doubles at the end of that bareknuckles demo f_ck me what a sound. SICK.Good song too.

Hearing the amazing Scumback cabinet validates all my feelings about the Marshall Handwired cabs I sold and I don't miss them for one minute!!
Great work on the clips, would have liked to hear even more pickups, but they did a good job.

Thanks for posting the clips. It's interesting to hear the different pickups in a fairly "scientific" side-by-side comparison. None of the pickups sounded bad to me although there were a few that I thought sounded a little better than the rest of the pack, like the Holmes, the Throbak, the WCR's and even the JB did a pretty good job.

These clips are awesome I really like the Motor City Black Belt. I just got a Gibson R7 last week and the bridge pickup kinda sounded thin and the volume was lower than the neck. I finally decided to pull off the cover and check things out. The bridge was measuring at 4ohms and the neck at 7.25ohms. Great quality control at the Gibson custom shop so I put in a Dimarzio 36th anniv. PAF that I had sitting around. It sounds real good but I think I will try the Black Belt. It's awesome that James Lugo spent so much of his time to do this and share it with everyone. Thanks James!!!
