Mozilla Firefox 3.5
I finally took the plunge and upgraded my browser from IE (not 7) to MF 3.5. The whole tabbing system at times has me confused and when I ask my specific questions of the info/help center, they don't understand my question. It certainly is mega-faster and has more features..
My specific question is say I open a tab and want to save it and open another say my photobucket and keep all tabs up on the toolbar to switch back and forth.
I know you can open all tabs under the most visited but, that is weird to me and the prompts, do you want to bookmark or cancel, quit..confuses me?
Any other source to explain hoe to keep multiple tabs open and switch between them without dumping a post, ect., whhich I have been doing and is certainly frustrating.
Hope I am making this clear..thanks!
Dave

Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
I hate tabs....I just downloaded Firefox 3.5 last night and shut them off immediately. Just a new window for me, thanks.......
But the damn browser address bar has a drop-down arrow for sites I've visited recently, but it doesn't work -- you click on it and nothing. The "recently visited" button keeps individual or multiple pages from the same site in memory so you can't find stuff you've been to yesterday or something without re-typing it. Irritating, but not as much as the thought of downloading another bloated, resource-hogging version of IE.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Flames, I found some add ons that will save , say a post you are writing and you know when a site times out and you go to submit it dumps it, also a better way to manage the tabs, when I find out what I did I will post it here, also I figured it out, just add a new tab on the tool bar and the new site will slot in, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages with FF 3.5 and the speed is awesome. I also found a site that I added my E-mail to that shows you ways around and offers downloads to help, ect.
Again will post it, thanks
Dave

Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Damn! You guys are old!
But seriously, glad to hear you've made the switch, Dave.
IE is 'integrated' into the Windows operating system. Not only does this make
IE slower to boot and run than Firefox, but it also creates a number of security
flaws. Firefox is fast as hell. It doesn't tax the system resources in terms of
memory, nor does it tax the security. It is free, constantly being improved, and
the number of (also free) plugins is astounding.
It takes a bit of getting used to. But I'd humbly request that you stick with it.
I think you'll be happier in the long run.
As for tabs and windows, I use both from time to time, but prefer to have multiple
copies of Firefox running. I often have up to 10 different FireFox windows. The
only times I ever get tabs are when the HTML or XML code for a link automatically
requests a new tab.
Using tabs is more efficient with Internet Explorer, because you don't have to
start another instance of IE. However, because Firefox is much more smooth in
running that IE, I can, as I say, have 10 copies running with no problems. Yes,
I can do that with IE, too, but my system would be really moving much more slowly.
Anyways - it will take some getting used to.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Dave,
To open new tabs, you've got a few different choices.
You can double click on any empty space on the tab bar,
Use Ctrl + T,
or if you make use of the bookmarks toolbar (far better than the "recently visited" menu, which I've never heard of until now), by holding Ctrl and clicking on a bookmark. This is a universal command, anytime you're holding Ctrl in FF and click on a link, it opens in a new tab.
You can also use Ctrl + Shift + T to reopen a tab you closed by accident.
Some useful addons:
Adblock, IE Tab, Tab Mix Plus.
These are FF essentials, IMO
Flames, I used to think the same way, but it makes for a very cramped taskbar!
I'll try to post a picture to show what I mean.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Thanks spaceace76, I have already incorporated some of what you have listed, plus the feature that recalls a page or inserted text in , say a forum post, it's killer and fun to utilize a browser that really works..
Here is the site that you can subscribe to that has latest updates, add ons, ect:
http://www.firefoxfacts.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I highly reccomend it.
Thanks everyone as we boldly go.....

My FF is heavily modified, so I apologize if this creates more confusion
Also I've never had posts dumped, (do you mean on forum sites like this?) even when accidentally navigating to another page, not sure why you're having this trouble. If this ever happens though, you can typically use the back button to return to the post page, and just copy it into a new post.
There is a TON of info on Firefox, tweaking every small option so the user can be more efficient. You can also google most issues, given you're using the right terms. Hopefully this post has given more help than confusion...

This is the bookmarks toolbar, I believe. You can just drag a tab onto the toolbar and it'll save up there, or move a site there while managing bookmarks (if it's already bookmarked). Bookmarks are VERY simple in the FF 3 version, click on the star at the end of the address bar, another click opens a small menu that allows you set what bookmark folder to file it into, and add tags to allow you to find it easier.yngwie308 wrote:also I figured it out, just add a new tab on the tool bar and the new site will slot in

Update: Firefox 3.5 First Fixes Are Ready

Firefox 3.5.1 Released
The first update to Firefox 3.5 has just been released. To get the update right now, all you need to do is go to Help > “Check for Updates…” in your browser. So what exactly is this new update fixing?
Both the slow startups for Windows users and the JavaScript memory corruption flaws have been fixed. After the update is in place, if you set javascript.options.jit.content to false via about:config, you can now go back in and set it to true again.
For more changes and updates in Firefox 3.5.1 – be sure to check out the release notes.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
I tried fire fox and installed my favorites from IE and they were all scrambled in firefox and a big mess to try and organize. After a week i went back IE which seemed to me way easer to use.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Some do find IE easier, but I'll tell you, the web without annoying, flashy ads, popups, or viruses of any kind (I've had FF on the entire life of my laptop, only recently got a virus but that was a torrent), is a far better experience. That plus speed, add on's/customization, and low memory usage adds up to a far superior browser, at least for me.

I'm with you Ace and the Coolis is like having an i phone, not that I have one, it is an awesome add on. I upgraded my IE to 8.5 from 6, duh, well I heard about issues with 7, so stayed put, still stay in my FF though!!
My Photobucket is at warp speed..

My windows vista blocks pop ups and my Mcafee fire wall and virus protection has stoped me from getting any problems what so ever with IE. I also run Ad Aware and Spybot search and destroy both free programs every couple of weeks.spaceace76 wrote:Some do find IE easier, but I'll tell you, the web without annoying, flashy ads, popups, or viruses of any kind (I've had FF on the entire life of my laptop, only recently got a virus but that was a torrent), is a far better experience. Re: Mozilla Firefox 3.5
that's great if it works for you, but what I'm getting at is that I don't use a firewall, nor do I constantly run virus software, or even have any live monitoring software, such as Mcafee (which i find bloated btw, most virus programs are basically adware with a paid subscription). Haven't for 2 years, and not because of luck, but because the security is there. Also, the web with no ads (not just popups, but banner ads you see on sites all over the web) is a nice change. If you think about it, the fact that IE requires you to run virus scans on a regular basis seems like more trouble than its worth. You shouldn't have to run, or even install several programs just to keep your computer running well.Tone-Freak wrote:My windows vista blocks pop ups and my Mcafee fire wall and virus protection has stoped me from getting any problems what so ever with IE. A good computer is a slim one, with little or no maintenance involved. I won't say that FF does all that for you, but it's much closer than IE.
Have you tried Chrome? It's by Google, not quite as fast as FF but you may find it easier to use.
