I've been playing Warmoth strat bodies since the '80s. My favorite sounding was probably the first one I got around '86. Hard Ash, had to be at least 7 lbs. That guitar weighed like LP, and I blame it for my cronic back problem, but it sounded great. It was really smooth sounding for a strat.
Since the early '90s I've been sticking with swamp ash. I've got 3 bodies. One I never painted and is totally beat now. One that's painted with filler/sealer/color/clearcoat, and one that has a maple top and was finished by Warmoth.
The painted one is the brightest and most open sounding one. It really worked well with the EVH pickup in it, but unfortunately it's paint scheme doesn't work for my current project, and it's been parted out. I think it weighs about 4 lbs.
The body with the laminated top is the deadest of the 3. It is the quietest one unplugged, and it's relatively dark through the Plexi, at least for a strat with a floyd, humbucker, and maple/maple neck. It weighs just over 3 lbs. I use this guitar the most.
The unfinished body is retired, but I remember it sounding less bright and having more chunk then the Ibanez guitars that were around in the '90s.
My favorite 'around the house' guitar these days is the hollow body Korina strat with maple/maple neck I put together a few months ago. It's my first non-trem guitar since high school. That guitar really sings, but it's definetely brighter and thinner then any of the others.
