Does Solid State make You Shiver

Post by dad99_2000 » Mon May 24, 2004 11:57 pm

WHEN MY MARSHALL BLEW AT PRACTICE I HAD TO PLAY THROUGH A SOLID STATE FENDER AMP. IT WAS SO COLD AND STERILE

I refuse to play through Solid state this was an exception but brrrrrr no dynamics so harsh I can't even listen to a solid state amps.

Solid state amps are not that bad altough some are dreadful I have an H/H amp actually i have afew, I use my H/H for pretty much everything and it takes everything i throw at it and sounds good. This amp was made in the 70's and was a killer amp, I have used it live and it sounds great, great with my sg and great with my bass, my bass sounds like crap through most solidstate amps and with this one it sounds killer kinda like motorhead and like early AC/DC it is hard to describe but it is such a killer tone this amp does not sound sterile like some do.

Like many other things, it depends on the amp.

Have heard more sterile sounding SS amps than not, but then I listen to something like Frank Marino's tone off of the LIVE album (circa '78) knowing he was playing thru a SS Acoustic amp with the HF horn disengaged, and have to remind myself very very hard that it's a SS amp!!!

There's also some old LAB SS amps (BB King used to endorse 'em) that have a fantastic blues tone.

So yes, they're out there but are not very common).
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!
