George -- 1K 2watt resistor in line with screen resistors?

Post by Flames1950 » Wed Oct 12, 2005 11:31 pm

George -- many of the original JTM45's I'm seeing pics of (along with the Marstran schems) and many clones seem to use a 1K 2watt resistor which the 470 ohm screen resistors branch off from. Is there a good reason for having that resistor, and why did you choose not to include it in your clones and kits? Any real difference in tone by lowering that screen voltage and limiting the current a bit more?

Rectifying those screens more stiffens up the amp. I have tried adding that 1k several times and it's just too much for my tastes.
