Queen & Paul Rodgers - Hollywood Bowl

Post by NY Chief » Sun Oct 23, 2005 4:19 pm

All in all a REAL good show. Rodgers struggled on a couple (both Queen & Bad Co) tunes but, the highlights were f'n great. Slash joined in on Can't Get Enough", Rodgers pulled a great version of "Bad Company" (never thought I would ever hear that live), May's tone was (typically) devastating at times. The sound was excellent. Lots of nods to Freddie (like him or hate him he LOVED to play to the crowd). Funny thing, more of the crowd sang along with the Bad Co hits than the Queen stuff. May and Taylor must have been thinking, "Wait a minute. This is OUR show!"

May played an increbidle solo acoustic 12 string on "39" and "Love of My Life". I don't care how long you have been playing but to come out and play AND sing "Love of My Life" by yourself, on a stool, in front of 18,000 people rocks! "Love..." is an incredilble guitar piece.

They did "Bohemian Rhapsody" but pulled a really cool wya to start it. The house got dark, then in the corner by the keyboards a liight grew until you realized it was Freddie at the keyboard with his back to the audience starting "Bohemian". They had set up a video screen and it looked like he was actually there. Then they switched to the big screen and the band finished. Spooky.

Oh yeah, it drizzeled the whole night, too. Gotta go take my vitamin "c"s.

Y'know, I gave the Queen + Paul Rodgers disc a spin at the bookstore last week. I hit the play button with every idea of being disappointed, figured it just wasn't gonna work.

I'll say it was a pleasant surprise. I'm not gonna run out and buy it, but it was a pleasant surprise.

To me, it was good enough to hear May's tone cranked through thet house PA. The rest was gravy!
