I saw him in London in 1987 and thought he totally sucked. But these clips you've been posting - wow! He sure got a lot better in the last 22 years.

Re: Machine Gun by Randy Hansen
I think so too Skip, there are only minute nuances that are missing and he does all this with much more modern gear, has custom Strats made for him, but this was a very cool Woodstock looking Strat and some say , yes he plays them note for note, but something is missing..not to me!!!
Randy really pays tribute to Jimi's music, keeping it alive outside of the Janie Hendrix world, this stuff isn't easy to play, I can tell you and this makes me laugh about all the whining about the "7.25 radius Fender necks, that Strat looks pretty much "7.25 to me, notes choking out indeed, ect.!!
The masters of the Stratocasters all can play with the real, original 'vintage' radius and you just have to have the action at a certain height.
I have said it ad nauseum here and other places a Strat isn't a Strat with a "9.5 radius, they feel like a PRS to me.
EJ or not, the stuff Randy is doing is amazing, I think I saw him in Long Island when he first started, and it was cool just to see this guy with three vintage Marshall stacks, the effects, the guitars, I was skeptical back then, but think that Randy truly is channeling Jimi when he plays almost and he is great at Hendrix style vocals.

Re: Machine Gun by Randy Hansen
There are a few shots of his pedal board, but nothing I recognized offhand. With Randy I have on occasion seen him using vintage style 1959 Super Leads, but for the most part JCM800's and occasionally custom built amps and cabs. But he still gets the authentic Jimi tone.
The Machine Gun clips I enjoy particularly because of the stock appearing Stratocaster, very cool.
Thanks I enjoyed these and was blown away as well when I first heard them. A few years ago there were some other BOG related clips in B/W, that had Who Knows, ect. And that was super amazing, but these were taken down and never seen again..

Re: Machine Gun by Randy Hansen
He sure can copy/mimic Hendrix . He does get a tone really simlar to bog. I would have been interesting if he instead of be a Hendrix cover artist had used Hendrix's influence/tone and created something semi original with. He can play and sing great but imo it is kind of novelty act. I am sure he has influenced people to buy Hendrix albums or turn people on to Hendrix which is great. He is kind of like the pope of Hendrix cover band artists. I am sure it makes him a decent living and I can not knock him for that. Get paid to do what he does best and does better than proably anybody . He does look like a beat up strung out Hendrix kinda.
I guess I just enjoy when musicians who can take from Hendrix and create something a little differnt/ not 100% exact cover act all the time. You know what I mean like E.J.,S.R.V,Bramhall 2 and many others. Just my opinion and what do I know . I meant no offense.

Re: Machine Gun by Randy Hansen
!!!! WOOOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!
the best machine gun cover i ever heard. He's the kind of guy who can play great tones with anything.
Byron Holmes, another Jimi hendrix inspired guy, who looks like him too and who also has some great voodoo creativity told me that the amp doesn't matter when i proposed him to jam, i'd just have to bring my guitar. it's about touch, a lot, we know that, but it's allways magic to hear what some can do with anything...
i'd like to get a jcm800 to see what i could do with that. But my metroamp is allready magic for these tones ; ) !!!
what kind of axis fuzz does he use ?
i think that he works a lot on his signal before the amp. at least, on its volume.
