Help me decide? Junior or Strat?
Hi, I know its dumb, and only i can decide, but what would you do?
I have a beautiful Gibson Les Paul Junior 57 vos reissue, custom shop model. It dosent come out of its case much, but when it does i really enjoy the chunky neck and the sheer balls of the thing, and i think its a real looker too, in its own way.
Thing is i am really a stratocaster man, i have four fairly nice Strats.
Well i have been offered a really nice USA 62 vintage reissue strat, for my junior, got till friday to decide.
The 62 Reissue Srat is nicer than the ones i own, and ive always hankered after one and i know it will get a lot of playing.
Should i trade?

Since you've already got 4 Strats, and you like the '62 reissue better than the rest of 'em, AND you also like the Junior, maybe you should do an outright purchase on the nicer 62 reissue Strat, unload your least favorite Strat somewhere else, and keep the Junior for all the reasons that you said you love it.badfinger wrote:I have a beautiful Gibson Les Paul Junior 57 vos reissue, custom shop model. Then you've still got 4 Strats AND the Junior.
Strats are Strats, and they're nice, but "A Strat will never a Junior be..."

I know, the converse is true too, but you DO already have 4 Strats, so to me the answer is easy.

PS-That Junior IS sweet too...

Hi,
Your right of course, i should wait, unload one or maybe two of my least fave strats and buy the reissue, and keep the junior. Its Just the junior is the one that spends the most time in its box, but its fun when it comes out.
I guess i will sleep on it for a few nights... so many guitars...so little time.

I have a couple of Nationals that do the same thing... spend more time in their cases than is reasonably worth it for me to justify keeping them, but I could NEVER sell them. When that "Slide Guitar Jones" hits, Im always glad they're still hanging around.badfinger wrote:Its Just the junior is the one that spends the most time in its box, but its fun when it comes out.
Again, since you already have 4 Strats, it just seems like when you really wanna get that "Junior Thing" happening, it'll be there.
Tough to compete with a good Junior thru a cranked amp. Its pretty much a one trick pony, but that one trick is a mutha...

Hi,
Decided rightly, to wait, and hang on to the Junior, plenty of reissue strats around. So going to sell my USA Standard strat, and my Gibson Melody maker, that should get me almost in the ballpark for a used usa vintage 62 reissue.
Had a long session with the Junior the other night. It really is a fantastic player, the huge fat neck is so comfortable, and the sheer clarity at high gain
, coudnt let it go.
The strat can wait
at least for a liitle while
While talkiing strats, coudnt resist a pic of my fave.
Cheers.

I'm jealous of that Strat man. Bet she plays like a dream.

Hi,
It is a nice strat, if youve heard the live version of little wing from the Hendrix in the west album, this guitar sounds so much like it its uncanny, it sends a shiver down my spine the bottom end has huge piano like tones. The Lam maple board sounds very different to one piece necks.

Yes, I've definately heard that version of Little Wing, I'd venture to say that it's my favourite. It's from the Albert Hall Show, Feb 69' I believe. I love his tone through that whole show, so big and clear.
I think that's my next Strat, I'm thinking Candy Red with a two piece Lam Maple Neck, and Sliders 69' pickups.

Re: Help me decide? Junior or Strat?
Hi,
Just a little update, sold my Melody Maker, sold my USA standard strat, and just placed an order for a new Fender 62 vintage reissue Strat, olympic white. Unseen and untried, but at a VERY good price.
And i still have the Junior!!!!. Just hope the strats a good one, though the American vintage serise seem to be pretty consistant from what ive read.
Anyone out there with any experience of the USA vintage reissues?

Re: Help me decide? Junior or Strat?
+! The maple cap necks just sound killer, there is no doubt, I know our G2 life buddy doesn't really hear any difference to him, as we discussed this before, but loves me a white maple cap '68 Strat..doesn't get any better..
I could never replace my most beloved of my two '54 Juniors, but the all original one was the loudest unplugged electric I ever played, like a friggin acoustic!!
