Musicman Axis - Big Block Upgrade

Post by azazael » Wed Mar 17, 2010 9:16 am

Upgraded the block on my Gotoh trem on my Musicman Axis last night.
I bought 2 blocks - one for OFR on franky also.

Block was great quality from hoockey on ebay and he was great to deal with even though we were not sure if it was a standard Gotoh bridge on the Axis although I believed it was.

I haven't got around to stringing it up yet and setting up the guitar again but I took some pics of it whilst I was doing it. The stock Gotoh block is considerably better than the stock OFR block which considering the price difference is interesting.

Also here is a photo of the stock block on an OFR.
This will be upgraded shortly.

Great choice, I think the block of a tremelo is of importance to the sound for sure. I think that the distance the strings ball end goes, is of greater importance than the thickness though. Vintage Fender spec. is the best imo.

I still prefer ANY tremelo that has the string going into the block some distance or other though. I think a fatter block on the OFR may only make a small difference, whereas, on systems where the string ball is kept, the further it travel's into the block, the more obvious tone improvement can be heard.

Not strung her up yet but I put it on my Frankenstrat also and it seems more resonant.

However at $24 whats the harm anyway?

Haggis

Haggis is actually very delicious.

So who's gonna cast up that I must have red hair and I must play guitar in a "skirt"?

Ha Ha  , that bit about the 'skirt' immediatly put the memories of The Bay City Roller's in my mind. Back in the 70's, I remember my sister and girl cousins alway's playing "S - A - T- U -R -D-A -Y" ! That, along with all the magazine posters on the walls of the Roller's along with Shaun Cassidy and Lief Garrett. Damn teeny boppers have always been around  .
