I have some tube questions

Post by beaulieu » Tue May 18, 2010 10:13 pm

Im always looking for amp parts for my older Marshalls and Im wondering...Does it really pay to buy highdollar tubes?? I see some tubes, even NOS preamp tubes for over 100.00.Do they REALLY make that much of a difference over say the nos tubes that one might get for 20.00?? Also I have a big bag of preamp(12AX7 AU7 and AT7) The ones I can remeber off habd are names like GE,RCA,Sovetech, tungstran?,a few mullards,Vox labled Mullards etc. What would be the best tube for NMV Marshalls??Im sure the old NOS tubes that are really expensive(I saw them 100.00-190.00 each) will those tubes make that much of a difference?? Thanks for the help Mark

Many guys would say - YES - old tubes sound better and last very much longer.
your goto tubes in the preamp would be:

Mullards
Philips
Sylvania
Siemens & Halske
TFK
RFT
Tesla
etc.......

Many guys seem to prefer Mullards in the preamp.
I love strong sylvanias and S&H for V1, Mullards for V2, and TFK smooth plates for V3.

Don't stare at the price tag, if you already have the - USE THEM!!!
