Hey guys, how much bass should a dimed 1959 have? Mine's through a Marshall Power Brake on the 3rd or 4th highest attenuation setting and it has mucho mucho bass, i can turn the bass knob down but it changes the dynamics, kinda like compression with some fizz.
Ive got the .0022 cap on the bright channel.

Re: 1959 Bass
Tricky question. Probably we have to know more about your rig.... Speaker cab? Type of guitar?
Have you used a 100w amp before? It's a horse kick. And should be
When I compare my 1959 with some of my other amps - JTM45, 1987/2204, Bassman 6G6-A/2204 - they are deeper and smoother in the bass freqs. But still the 1959 is kicking me because of its focus in the upper bass-mid freq range.
Do you have the 0.68 cap on V2a? It will tighten the bass and focus mid/treble.
Do you use the brigth channel only or both channels?

Re: 1959 Bass
Hey gunner, sorry for the delayed response...
Cab - '71 1960bx, 2 25w scummies, 2 25w '71 greenies
Guitar - EVH replica w/original Floyd and either SD59 or SD78 pup
Yes on the v2 bypass cap
Only the bright channel
Here's the signal chain.
Guitar > Vol 1 Bright > Marshall Power Brake > Cab
Sylvania 6CA7 and Sylvania 12ax7wa tubes, 8 ohm NFB tap w/47k NFB resistor, .0022u tone stack cap, 47pf fizz cap, ~394 B+, ~40ma, everything except vol II is dimed and I'd say that in addition to being extremely bassy it also doesn't have much gain...i can throw a GE10 in front of the guitar and dial in some good tone but i feel like I'm relying way too heavily on the GE10.
Thanks

Re: 1959 Bass
Have you tried it without the Power Brake? Maybe you need a better attenuator or go MV.

How old is this build? Has it been bassy from the start or is this a new developement? Is this an all Metro kit or did you source some parts elsewhere?dtdionne wrote:Hey mars, i have...it's still really bassy.
