Gibson ES-335 - Replacement Pickups

Post by BBN-Boys » Tue Nov 08, 2005 7:28 pm

Can you guys recommend humbucker pickups for my Gibson ES-335 RI (hollow body)??

I really love the feel and vibe from the guitar, but I feel that the stock Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers sound a little dead, muddy, and compressed through the plexi.

BTW, I'll be placing an order with Jeff at HighOrder Pickups next week for my Gibson LP Custom. My order will be Alinco 3 Magnets 8.7K Bridge & 8.0K Neck.
Any of you guys have any experience with the HighOrder Humbuckers in a hollow body like the ES-335??

I put Duncan Antiquities in mine... Good match for the guitar. Depends on what you're going for, but something close to a PAF is the only way I would go with a guitar like that...

Thanks for the input....
I was thinking that Duncan Antiquities would work great in a es335 but thought that since they are not wax potted they would sqeal uncontrollably when the amp is cranked.

Anybody have any experience with unpotted pickups in a hollowbody with a cranked marshall??

Were original PAF's unpotted? I used to crank my buddy's dad's '59 ES335 through my 2204 and 4x12, didn't have any squealing issues.

I'll try a pair of SD antiquities in the es335. I guess antiquities ($210) would be a little cheaper than those WCR or Lollor PU ($300+) that I was considering.

BTW - I have SD antiquities in my strat and tele and love the sound. I hope I get the same results in my es335.
