Are these any good in a 45? How are t hey different from the Chinese KT-66s? I'm told they're US made in the 80s.

What's the plate dissipation? And would I have to change bias resistors?

Why do you say that axe? I've had nothing but good service from TubeDepot. And $99 for a pair of NOS 6L6 is not outlandish.

Your rite that is a good price, and good for you. You've had good experiences with them. I've heard and experienced it for my self, that's why I don't buy from them.

The build on them looks the same as the 'green label' JAN 6L6WGB's from the mid 80's. If that's the case, you can assume them to be a 25w tube with no problem. I have used the JAN version in super reverbs for years without any issues, biased sanely of course. The only issue I've ever had w/ the JAN ones was one tube that was a little gassy and used up most of the flashing after about 2 years, but still sounded, biased, and worked fine.billstets wrote:Are these any good in a 45? I've also run these in my mojo jtm45 and they were fine, it gives you the fendery bassman sound, if thats what you might want. Sounds good, just fendery. Not like a KT66 tho IMO..
I have some different philips blue label and green label (JAN) from this era; WGB's, GC's and 7581's. They all have the same basic flavor of tone, much like the old STR 6L6 (I have these also and have compared them). A bit on the clean tight hi headroom side of things, compared to say a NOS GE 6L6 side getter. I think they sound pretty good, even in my metro 50, just fendery.
The story I got from a couple sources back then was that philips basically was down to building only one flavor and structure of 6L6 in the last days of production, and the only thing different among the WGB and GC was the getter structure and location (WGB has one on the side as opposed to 2 on the top for the others), and that the WGB is actually a 30 watt tube same as a 7581, but should be de-rated a bit because of the smaller glass envelope. Visually comparing all these philips types side by side, I'm inclined to agree with that.
As for tubedepot, I had 1 dealing with them. Bought a half dozen NOS RCA 12AY7's, paid the extra $$ for "low noise and microphonic testing", and they were absolute shite. I called them, explained, and sent them back for replacement, and they just sent me more absolute shite. I would never recommend them to anyone personally...
