I haven't done a lot of AB'ing, but the split is supposed to be edgier and crisper, maybe a bit brighter?Brandon wrote:I think the one george built me is split.... what is the sonic difference between the two anyway?Doug H wrote:I'd go shared for any jimi tones, I've read rumours he had at least one later Marshall amp modded this way, and I'd vote shared is a more classic Jimi type sound.

You got to remember that different tubes were being used along the way with all the transitions Marshall was making.
This can account for different things in the tone.
Still, I think ALL of HENDRIX'S Marshall amps were SPLIT cathode after AXIS. 'All Along The Watchtower' and 'Tax Man' (South Saturn Blues') were done around the same time I believe. That sounds like pure 12xxx Marshall to me (through some 25's).
That great Mullard el-34 WARMTH was apparent by that point (earlier Kt-66 was less middy and brighter).
By the time Hendrix hit the Woodstock stage, he was using what George has sold as the '69 spl. (tubes are debatable, 6550's were definately being used by then, BUT if Hendrix picked up a NEW top (not his older '68 era touring amps that had been converted to 6550's), then it had new Mullard (or Brimar 'rebranded' Still Mullard, el-34's).
I say this, allow yourself time to understand this amp your going to recieve . The ppimv , combined with the 2203 master volume (you will have both, right ?) should yield very good results.
For Hendrix though,, an attenuator (Aracom is REALLY happening) is your best bet. That along with a 'special' fuzz face (it's the relation between the transistors).

Yeah that is a '69 Shared Cathode with EL34 he would heve been using that one right around Woodstock, Band of GypsiesDoug H wrote:I was thinking about this one which supposedly has a shared mod

Re: What Amp Do I Buy To Get Hendrix At Woodstock Tone?
yeah, carlygtr was a member here. very good player, and there's a sound that reminds about bog, especialy if he plays bog. But, this subject is more discussed on the el34/6550 thread, and this sound, tone, as well as what randy hansen does, isn't THIS SOUND yet. it's about hendrix, the amps, the guitar, the room, the effects, the recording, the setup, the speakers, etc etc etc ...
i think that it's easier to get the woodstock type of sound, than the real bog type of sound. one amp only had this acoustic/audio signature, to my ears. it was evident. a special non standard jtm45/100 ... not even trying to get close to bog tone, but evident. no el34 or 6550 story, althought it's a bit possible to force things into that direction with a superlead... but quite forced.

Never claimed it was Hendrix. For you to say that though is more a compliment I graciously accept.swankmotee wrote:heatpad wrote:IMO, it's not the amp or the guitar-
Yeah, and that sure AINT Hendrix playing either!LOL! Sounds like a very white boyee living in Mom's basement playing through the "Henrdrix" Aplitude rig. Keep practicin' Carlyee cause you aint there yet!
No basement here either. What has that got to do with the clips?
I ain't where yet? I got my own style so direct copying isn't my thing.
Instead, why not post your own clips? and please spare everybody those lame ass noise fest clips you got up there. A real embarressment.
Ps, I'm white....but what does that matter?
Pretty sad, shorty

Yeah, it's me. I just posted a few clips to represent getting into the "feel" is more important then trying to clone an exact sound.
Swankee-Shorty chiming in is par for the course. He can't ignore when I put my stuff up. It really bothers him.....if you watch any of his YT Jimi clips it's easy to see why.

BTW, in getting back to the OP, I got a '69 spec Mouradian amp coming soon.

Anytime he wants to go clip for clip is fine with me. He never will though. He's a short gutless fool.

ha ha ha ha !
yeah, you pee further than anyone else
i didn't see your clips, but i'd be surprised to hear a modest and imaginative soul in it.
everyone is in some point into his evolution and talent, you don't seem to accept it, and you seem to prefer to burn those that have the right to play the guitar with pleasure, and share it, without necessarly being hendrix. tolerance ... tolerance ! please. or it's a monolog, and there's no reason to be here to discuss with us if you have nothing to proove, nothing to communicate , else than "i'm the best and shut up".
THIS bothers me.
