Re: Willing to draw up Marshall 4x12 blueprints
Man, that's a ton of work you did. Glad I have cabinet guys that I hand my old cabs to and say "Make it like this!", cuz I'm no good with power tools (and I've got the scars to prove it!).
And you're welcome for the help!

Re: Willing to draw up Marshall 4x12 blueprints
To be honest with you these plans are really crude in overall appearence, level of drawn detail, and adhesion to drafting standards.....But I think they will suit there purpose. One thing I'm definately going to change/re-do is the center line(s). They all got trashed during the re-scaling phase when the pdf file was created.I just gave them a quick scan, and they look really good.
It looks like more work than it really is. The toughest parts are making sure you have enough information present to actually construct the item, and trying to get the dimensions placed within the drawing so they obscure the part their referencing.Man, that's a ton of work you did. Well, today I ordered 2 5x5 sheets of BB, and I wouldn't even consider trying to do the build without your great drawings.Tazin wrote:Thanks guys. I just hope this helps those who are venturing into the endeaver of building a cabinet for themselves.
Only thing I'm not sure of at this point, is how the pine rails etc. are attached. Is it just done with staples and some kind and glue? If so, does anyone have any idea of the size of staples, and if there are various lengths used? I assume it would just be regular carpenters glue, I don't think they had anything too exotic back then.
Thanks again for your great prints!

There attached with staples.....Not sure about any glue though. If I were making a cabinet I would probably just use glue (like Titebond II) and clamp the pine rails and stiles with those "Quick-Grip" bar clamps. I think that would work just fine. If you were really unsure about the holding power of the glue you could use a couple of 4-d finishing nail in conjunction with the glue.

Thanks. I've been thinking of buying a cheap pneumatic stapler/brad nailer for a while now, maybe the time has finally come.

I haven't used Titebond II but will vouch for Gorilla Glue. Its never let me down yet.Tazin wrote:There attached with staples.....Not sure about any glue though. These drawings are fantastic. This would be a great pre-cut kit to sell to those of us who only own a jigsaw.

If they downloaded OK from Megaupload, then you'll probably need some type of PDF file reader. (Adobe reader)72fetter wrote:any idea as to why i cant see the plans

Re: Willing to draw up Marshall 4x12 blueprints
I looked into B grade Baltic Birch ply. Local fools here wanted $62 for a 60"x60"x5/8" sheet and unfortunately there aren't many lumber yards within an hours drive from me. Anyone else finding stupid high prices on this stuff?
Wholesale for 5/8" B grade should be about $25-28.

Re: Willing to draw up Marshall 4x12 blueprints
I got mine from a local custom kitchen cabinet builder. He happens to be an old friend, but I would think that any small one or two man operations like that might sell it to you for a reasonable price. Most of them don't use it any more, but they should be able to get it from their regular suppliers.BAinFL wrote:I looked into B grade Baltic Birch ply. Re: Willing to draw up Marshall 4x12 blueprints
@Watt:
From reading a few woodworking websites, seems a lot of folks making cabinets have been switching to US or Canadian Maple ply. More sq ft per sheet, better quality and availability. Seems a lot of Baltic Birch available lately is cheap Chinese or S. American junk at HD or Lowes and you pay a premium for the good Russian, US or Canadian stuff at a lumber yard.
Out of curiosity what's your "friend" price costing you a sheet? Is it true B/BB grade? 5/8 or 3/4"? 5' x 5' or 8' x 4'?
