It's actually red but after stripping the poly off (what an ordeal) and "aging" it, it kinda lightened it up a bit. That and the pic is without a flash. I'm really digging alder after not playing one for a while...azazael wrote:Have to admit I get more of Gary Moore vibe from the Charvel than a Jake E Lee.
Reminds me of the Red Charvel at the Stockholm show and the salmon pinkish colour reminds me of his old fender.

You right Azazael, Gary did use some Charvels similar to that one (one hb'er on a pick guard, etc).
Rich D, I can tell by the grain that the 'All Parts' build of yours is Ash. Is it light or heavy ? thats the only way I can tell swamp from Northern hard, unless it isnt finished,, then I can tell by my thumb nail.

It's pretty heavy, heavier than my alder 5150 by quite a bit. It has never had any finish on it at all. As you can see from the pics, it's kind of a weird shape with a sharp arm contour, and it's pretty thick.Tone Slinger wrote:Rich D, I can tell by the grain that the 'All Parts' build of yours is Ash. I'd say hard ash with the 50's style contour (my fav strat contour). Get some sound clips up. I need to get more computer 'saavy'. I've tried to post clips but they are rejected because of thier MB content.
I'm almost done with my 12xxx build. I'll figure out how to post when its done
.
I am of the same thinking as Mark, and , as of late , strat78, which is ,,, "Post clips or shut the fuck up !" (not meaning anyone in particular).
We can all learn from each other BASED on the clips. Doesnt matter how well or (unwell) people play. Something can be learned from the mic,, guitar wood,, bridge, pu, speakers, tubes, caps, etc, from submitted sound clips.
This forum can hit a new level for sure !

Totally dude. I was out of guitar stuff for quite a while until I came across this forum and now I'm back into it. I've done entirely too much talking without any posting since I joined here. I'm getting my ducks in a row to post some clips. I've dug up my old Shure 58 and a friend has software. My main amp right now is an EVJ with a Plexi SE PCB with a Sylvania (Groove Tubes) 6CA7. I have a 5150 Combo which I got on even trade for my old JCM800 1x12 combo. I found this forum about 3 years too late to know what that little bastard could do and prevent me from making that mistake.Tone Slinger wrote:Get some sound clips up. Damn Vanhalen5150,, how many totally cool lookin guitars do you own ? That looks sweet as hell !
Yeah, the JCM 800 would have been the one to have kept, considering (if it was 'lone' channel version, not the switchable) that its circuit is basically a 1959 with the first two gain stages cascaded. But hey , no big deal, that 5150 is way more versatile.

It was this one:Tone Slinger wrote:(if it was 'lone' channel version, not the switchable)

I really shouldn't complain. At the time I was getting my ass kicked by the rhythm guitar and the drums because I didn't have a cab. The 5150 certainly put me back up front. But now I'm not doing any band stuff and as a hobbyist I'd like to be doing all this tinkering with a Marshall. It also had an incredible clean sound that the 5150 can't touch.

I love my JCM800 combo...it has a really great clean channel. I have been thinking about getting the Mod5 done to this amp, but I'm still not sure...I have been using an old Tube Screamer to goose the distorted channel and it gets a reasonably good sound for VH-1, at least for my purposes...I know next to nothing about this amp. I bought it for $50 from one of my students back in the early 90s...Rich_D wrote:It was this one:Tone Slinger wrote:(if it was 'lone' channel version, not the switchable)

Re: Official post your frankenstrat thread - LET's See THem!
I bought mine for $250 or something like that around 1990. Profit wise, I made off great selling it for $700, but now I wish I had it back to mod it. As you can see, mine was the weird one with the side-by-side inputs and the 4010 plate. I love weird stuff. I guess I can work on my 5150, but it's not a Marshall. The 5150 combo is a killer amp though.

well, mine is of the last of the import bodies, theyre doing made in usa bodies now, but im happy with it. i ordered a special Sound of Sin pup, so it's got something extra. but neck is great, FR stays in tune. body is real nice. Alder.vanhalen5150 wrote:How do those Kmag's sound?
my only complaint would be that underneath the pickguard the routing is not typical strat cavity routing. since its a single volume pot, its only drilled to fit a single vol pot. a little tough when trying to rewire it and all that but besides that, it rocks.

Re: Official post your frankenstrat thread - LET's See THem!
Heres what I got for the VH fix-1986 Baretta with a Duncan 78 EVH --The yellow/black one is a KNE body-Warmoth neck-original floyd with a EVH Franky p.up--The black one is a KNE Franky body with a divebomb franky neck-Callaham trem with a old Dimarzio super dist.p.up and painted with Reranch..I decided not to stripe it as I play it out alot..I also did not paint any cavaties in the bodys of both guitars-only sealed them. Im thinking that might help the tone. Seems like more paint and sealers only deaden tone-I might be wrong but they both sound good.
