Orange amps use in psychedelic/stoner rock

What is it about Orange amps that have most of the neo psychedelic bands and stoner rock bands using them? Dont get me wrong they are great amps, it's just strange so many different bands playing essentially the same kind of music using one brand of amp. I hardly see any in those genres anymore using Marshalls or Fenders.

Strange... I often see Stoner/Slugde bands playing 2203/4 or 1987/59 Marshalls...

Matamp, HiWatt and Orange are also populair, but not exclusive in these genres.

My friend plays live with Sade (definitely not a psychedelic stoner band) and he recently recorded several tracks using the Orange gear that he has been using on stage for the last 2 years...though his regular band is a pretty riffy Soundgarden influenced punky band. Sade's recent cover of Thin Lizzy's "Still In Love With You" is a track that was recorded with an Orange Tiny Terror amp...the solo and some of the electric overdubs are played by my friend Ryan Waters...

I think the main thing with Orange amps are the looks, but the newer ones have lots of fun little features while maintaining the classic looks...

I'm not saying the use of Oranges are only with that genre, I understand that. What I meant was, what is it that attracts the psychedelic/stoner rock bands to them? Tonal characteristics wise.

Looks. That's it in my opinion. Also, the fact that they are shown in Beat Club's promo videos for "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" even thought they didn't use them on record.

It may have...even Page only used the Orange amp for his Theremin and it had nothing to do with his guitar sound...

They certainly have the right look with their bold color and they are always a good choice for sound in a variety of musical settings.

They are popular with indie rock bands here in the UK too. They have a rich tone which can be spiky and crunchy too. They do not have the metal/classic rock connotations that are implied with a full marshall stack and do not have to be really wound up to get crunchy like classic fenders (think Steve Jones and a Bassman 4x10). Funnily enough Vox AC30s are also popular, often sitting on top and fed into the ubiquitous Marshall 4x12. Still plenty of JCM800s around.
Most amazing guitar tones I have heard recently was at a gig by the Horrors. Guitarist is Joshua Hayward (son of Justin I believe). His sound is very psychadelic and multilayered with an AC30, Selmer TnB and a small Fender combo.
Pedal board full of delays/loopers and modulators - sound everywhere!

Yes you can hear the Sonic Youth influence from the outset, but particularly at the gigs the aural mayhem and assault that fills the hall is very impressive.

The primary reason and real answer to this question is the simple fact that the new Orange company has (or had until recently) an *excellent* artist pricing program, they very smartly puts cool looking amps on stage at a reduced cost to the user. We can talk for days about other factors, but that is the real one right there. Go try and get artist pricing from hiwatt and see what they offer in comparison (I did) and its a shocking difference.

Leslie West was playing Ultra Linear Sunn's in Mountain, you can tie that to Orange if you want to be scholastic about it but I dont knwo too many guitarists who even know what an UL tap is for, so...

As many people probably know, the orange at beat club in Bremen was the house amp and most bands were required to play their gear instead of loading in their own stuff... This was a windfall of free marketing for orange. Could be the only time sabbath ever played an orange but the average fan equates that era iommi with orange and not laney because of it...
