Ed's Old Peavey Wolfgang

Post by yngwie308 » Tue Mar 27, 2012 1:55 am

I snapped this guitar two weeks ago on a fleeting visit to RACKSYSTEMS in North Hollywood.
Spotted a purple Wolfgang hanging on the wall with a familiar looking strap hanging arrangement and when I asked Dave Friedman if it was and he said yes!
So it had belonged to Ed and Dave said now it was his!
Dave has done work for Van Halen for ages and all his racks including the latest.

Also this cool scalloped Kramer was there!!

Dude - nice!! You bought this or you mean you just snapped photos??

The purple flame wolfies look great! :hairband:

Quite a few of my guitars now have the EVH strap hooks, makes the guitar feel more industrial.

Ed often used a Purple Wolfie on the III tour in 1998. I wonder if it is the same one:

Just wondering how the action is on the guitar? I have often heard that his action is set somewhat high. I recently played one of the Franky copies at the Fender factory and was surprised at how high the action was!

Yes that was the guitar he used on that tour. Also his action now is very low.

Thanks to Dave Friedman for taking time from his very busy day to spend some time with me when I was there. Mark Day as well!
Dave has a killer shop and I haven't felt like a kid in a candy store since the days back in London when I first visited Jim Marshall's Ealing Broadway shop back in 1968!
Just some of the equipment awaiting the Friedman magic, again just massively impressive as incredible birthing room of major tasty tone!!

The countdown continues to highly awaited Friedman Steve Stevens Signature amplifier, unfortunately I did not have time to play her and a paying customer was using the sound room but it's on next time I'm back in North Hollywood. :hairband:

Is that THE famous naked Friedman cabinet?

What is that smaller cabinet over on the far left that we only see the side of?

So you couldn't fit any of the amps under your coat as you left?

There was some really killer greasy stuff bandwise yes. Its different, totally explorative and experimental sounding. Really awesome guitar work.

But.............

I cannot take Cherones prescence on it at all. Its just so not van halen at all. They'd have done better with with the dude from Bullet Boys imho.

This record i guarantee will be a rediscovered gem in the future though
